What's Your Mother's Name?

Re: What's Your Mother's Name?

  • Barbara Jean.  Not crazy about it, but I did consider "Jae" as a MN, as a combination of my mom's MN and MIL's MN "Rae".  But it was vetoed.

  • Brigitte Mae. She pronounces it Bridget though. Totally my grandmas fault, she wanted the French spelling but liked the Irish/Gaelic pronouciation better. I think both variants are pretty and would consider using Brigitte or Mae for ant future daughters mn.

Elizabeth Ann, I love Elizabeth but I won't use it because we don't name children after living relatives.

Ann is also my middle name (As well as my oldest sister's and my grandmother's) and I hate it, so I won't be using that either.

My mom's name is Elizabeth Ann too.  I really like her name and we plan to use Elizabeth as a mn for our first daughter.  We don't have a problem naming after living relatives.

My mom goes by Beth and hates being called Elizabeth.  She doesn't mind her middle name, but always said that she wished her mom had spelled it Anne because she thinks it looks more finished.

  • Jean Marie.  I don't really like Jean.  Marie is ok.  I would consider it for a middle name.
  • Marilyn Jean.  i'm pretty sure she was named after marilyn monroe.  i like it but probably wouldn't use it.  maybe jean?  but our last name starts with j so maybe not.

  • Michele Marie

I do like it - I gave my daughter Michele as a middle name. My grandma (who was a Bernice) was so proud that she named my mom Michele with one 'L'. Funny thing is my mom went to get her birth certificate for some reason as an adult, and it lists her name as Michelle!

My mother's name is Rose Marie and I love it!

Same here, except her full name is Rosemarie. Everyone calls her Rose.  If we have a girl her mn will be Rose.

  • Jeanene Della (Pronounced Ja-NEEN). I guess my grandma got cre8ive with the spelling? My mom HATES her middle name, and she just doesn't like that she gets called Jeannie all the time.

I kind of like Jeanene, and Della is growing on me, but I don't know that I would use either one. I kind of feel wierd about naming after living relatives.

  • Sharolyn (like Carolyn with a shhh sound at the beginning) mn Havene (I've heard it pronounced Hah-veen or Hay-veen--- either way I strongly dislike it)

She goes by Sheryl which is way better than her actual name. Sorry Mom, still love ya!

  • Eleanor Elizabeth

My mom has always hated the name Eleanor, I'm not a fan either, so we are both surprised how popular its becoming. Elizabeth is a family name. Its been passed down to the oldest daughters as their mn with my sister being the 4th one.

  • Eve Elizabeth Katherine

She was named Eve because she was the first female born to my grandfather's side of the family for many many generations. Elizabeth was her mother and grandmother and Katherine would have been an aunt, but passed as a child during WW2. And yes, I do love my mother's name, and it is even becoming quite popular these days.

  • Elanore Jean. Yup, spelled Elanore. I really love Eleanor as a way to honor my mom, but DH hates it. Oh well.
  • Margaret Ann... she goes by Peg or Peggy. I never really liked Margaret until recently but I think it sounds lovely together with Ann.

  • Michael with no middle name.  She loathes it, and I can see why...it has to suck to be addressed as Mister when someone doesn't know you.

  • Jennifer Ann. It's not a bad name at all just a little dated. I would like to use ann/a for a middle name if I ever have a girl.

Mary Elizabeth. Classic, beautiful. But I've never felt the urge to use the name Mary (Elizabeth, yes, I could see myself choosing that one for a daughter).

Edited: Okay, this thread made me think of Mary in an entirely different light. I don't know... perhaps I *could* use it as a fn or mn for a daughter? I really do like my mom's name!

I love the name Mary for a girl. Way under used these days, and don't do a double name (Mary Grace, Mary Claire, etc). Just Mary Last Name is lovely IMO.

  • Michelle Joy.  Her nickname is Miki.

I like it for my mom, but would never use Michelle myself.  Joy... obviously I did use.  Grandma is Joyce, mom Michelle Joy, me Christina Joy, and now my daughter Alina Joy.

  • Barbara Jean (mom and I have the same middle name) She's not a fan of her first name, but obviously she likes her middle name enough to pass it on to me.

I almost changed my middle name to my maiden name when I got married, but my dad really wanted me to keep. His reasoning was that I would always be a "maiden name" no matter what my new last name was and that I didn't have much from my mom's family. I caved and kept it and it's kind of growing on me more. I don't think I would pass it on to a daughter though.

  • Virginia Ellen. I am using Ellen as DD2 MN. Mom hated her first name, was about to legally change it to her NN Gini. My MIL is Sandra Lynn, goes by Sandy. Not a huge fan.

  • Claudia Mae

Mae/May is a family mn, used by my great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and oldest sister. Apparently it is passed to each eldest daughter. It stopped at my sister, though. I guess Mae isn't that popular any more and I didn't want to use it. I wanted to name my DD Anna and I wouldn't name her Anna Mae for the life of me! lol

  • Frances [no middle name]

It's ok, kind of elegant, but also kind of masculine and a bit strange -

Always misspelled with an "i" - the male form of the name. And lots of mail addressed to Mr.  Maybe that's why I don't like gender neutral names.

I plan to use my mom's maiden name as my baby's MN.

  • Janice Maureen... Not a fan.
  • Holly Jean.  Love the name Holly.

Her sisters are Susan, Sallie, and Melody.  I think my grandmother (Florence-LOVE that name!) had good taste.

  • My mom's name is Tereasa Luray.  My moms mn is my Gma's first name and was my mn until I got married.  I wish I wouldve kept it.   I would use Reese or Luray but not the full name of Tereasa.  Dh's mom is Teresa too so Reese would work to honor both of them if we wanted :)

  • Kathy (not short for Katherine, Kathleen, etc) Louise.  Most people called her "Kate" growing up and a few still do.  I've considered Katherine as a mn, but it's my (adult) niece's mn and she'd probably tell everyone we named a baby after her.  Louise is ok, but DH doesn't like it.  My grandmother's names are Violet and Clara Ella.  DH's mother is Gloria Jean, but goes by Jean.  I don't really care for Jean, and Gloria is very dated to me.  I love Violet, but my cousin already has that as a fn, so we're thinking maybe for a mn.
  • Patricia Ann. She goes by Pat and her brothers call her Patti.
