Cloth Diapering

Has GM jumped the shark?

What's with the ridiculous pricing? I'm wondering how soon this plan of Suz's is going to backfire.

  • Especially with the quality of some other diapers that also have cute prints... And better prices.

  • With the mess last week and this pricing, I'm pretty much done with GM stalking.  I'll keep an eye out for used at good prices, but that's all for me.

  • Wow... I'm really glad there's nothing I want this week. I wish she would stock the stragglers like that so I'll know if I can ignore the stocking entirely.
  • D@#m it...I just bought a GC, so I could stalk aliens, too....now I'm really not sure what to do.  <throws a hissy fit>

  • Yeah, I also got a couple of NIP diapers direct from the GM this week that frankly looked a little shoddy.  I'm slappin 'em on spots while crazy-cakes-cash-to-burn-girl is still around.
  • I bought two new GM's and I am happy with them but they are not my favorite plus the print I love is also in fitteds on two other sites so I think I am done with new for a while unless I just buy a few of the velour.

  • I don't have a GM, so I don't have an opinion, but I won't pay more than that $35 for a diaper. So far my favorite fitted is my TT, which actually fits DD now, but that could change as she grows so I want to try a few different ones, including GM. Unfortunately DH still won't do used diapers.

Unfortunately, you hit the upon the exact reason for the pricing.  The crazy auctioneers and auctionees.

  • Two of the other diapers (Eric Carle print and Hello Kitty) are priced at $45.  Which I think is crazy as well (even if not as crazy as $55).

  • I'm so glad I'm not in love with any of the prints this week. I like the kitty one but I have a DS.
  • Its ridic.  I am not paying that much for a diaper when i can get the same prints much cheaper.  I understand she is "trying" to discourage scalping,  but its driving off customers.

  • I have never bought a new Goodmama, but it seems to me that the people on the FB page should keep quiet during previews.  Every week they go crazy talking about how much they need such and such print and then the price is jacked up the next day.  Coincidence?  I think not.  I'm sure GM knows by now which prints will be hits, but still... STFU for one day.

I so want to post that it's only $9 or less a yard on her FB page Stick out tongue

I get that she has to following and that people will pay that price, I guess I'm just upset I'm not one of them

  • I don't know fabric prices -- how does $9/yard compare to what you would pay for other prints?  And how much do you think it costs her in materials to make a diaper?

This is already happening...why buy a $33+ diaper when you can buy an equally nice one for cheaper from PP, TT, BSRB, B4, etc?

    LOL.

I have to say that despite being annoyed at the price gouging I have never been disappointed with the quality of her dipes.

Actually they are about the same price as B4.  Price shipped from B4 is just below $38 and GM price shipped is just over $39.

When the diaper is $35. Heh. Not when it's 45-55-65! And B4's are much more generously sized and you can cover the snaps without having to buy extras.

  • since she claims that she spent so much more on these "special fabrics", I want to know who screwed her over on fabric prices.

sorry but i'm just not buying it

i have wondered if you have to be licensed to sell things made of fabrics that someone else designed.

  • I'm probably in the minority here, but I say good for the goodmama. If anyone is going to make money on her diapers, it should be her!

When the crazies die down, prices will drop again, supply and demand.

DH found a HUGE lot of them for free on Craigslist the other day.  We're saving them to give to dd as rewards when she gets older.  I was looking through them and there are some fairly HTF ones in there from the height of the craze.  All in all, at the height, the bag would have been worth several hundred dollars.  Now it's worth nothing.

seeing that it's real easy to find these fabrics elsewhere, i kind imagine she just spends a day at joanne's fabrics picking out fabric for the next week... i bet she even uses coupons! lol

No you don't.  "While the pattern on the fabric may be copyrighted, the actual fabric itself is not"

  • I officially love the woman that commented "I don't poop in my purse" on the GM FB page.  I think the issue with pricing is that she did not start out at crazy high prices.  She started out pricing diapers reasonably and now she is alienating her fan base with the huge increase.  You either value your loyal customers or you don't.

You do.  Fairly well known examples are NFL fabrics and Disney.  I thought for a long time Hello Kitty fell under this rule, too, but I haven't checked recently if they've changed their licensing practices.

Now, this isn't to say that she's doing her due diligence and requesting licenses, but it does make me wonder.

  • imageMegaP:

    No you don't.

Actually, yes you do.  See above.  There are a lot of prints that have special licensing attached to them.

  • The way things seem right now, this isn't going to discourage scalpers...they'll just buy them and auction them off for the $100s or even $200s that some went for on Spots!!!

Thanks for the correction...I haven't bought a brand new diaper in at least 6 months, and never from B4.

Is the shipping from B4 faster?
