The way things seem right now, this isn't going to discourage scalpers...they'll just buy them and auction them off for the $100s or even $200s that some went for on Spots!!!
yeah, her strategy makes NO SENSE to me... especially if she says, she could care less if you sell or trade them after you buy them... i think she at some point got butt hurt that people were making more money than her off her own diapers. she started charging those prices because SHE COULD and people would buy them
so she's going to up-charge them from the beginning in hopes to dissuade scalping?? huh??

I honestly think the bubble will burst. I, personally, don't think her marking up prices based on FB comments is smart business. If she'd leave well enough alone on the price end, I think she'd have longer term success. I agree she should make a profit, it is a business after all, but I think long term success is driven by a quality product at a fair price, not insane markups.

Its ridic. I am not paying that much for a diaper when i can get the same prints much cheaper. I understand she is "trying" to discourage scalping, but its driving off customers.
This.

Yeah, I also got a couple of NIP diapers direct from the GM this week that frankly looked a little shoddy. I'm slappin 'em on spots while crazy-cakes-cash-to-burn-girl is still around.
LOL.
I have to say that despite being annoyed at the price gouging I have never been disappointed with the quality of her dipes.
I always agree with you on everything, Yoda!

Or start making them out of actual, expensive, $20-30/yd fabric.

I'm pretty sure her strategy is to make as much money from the crazycakes as possible. lol
i understand she is doing it to make money and more power to her. If the crazies will pay it then she should go for it. But part of business is keeping all your customers happy and based on the chatter on fb, most of her customers are not happy. I have no doubt the diapers will sell out this week, next week etc, but eventually the crazies will move on the something else and the loyal customers will be long gone.

She is bananas. There is no way it takes the labor or the fabric to reasonably charge that much for 1 diaper. If her norm price was $33-$35 she set that price to make a profit. I would wager it costs her under $10-$12 to make most of the diapers and now she is just being greedy. I can even see going up to $40ish but more than that is just CRAZY to me.

I don't think greedy is the right word. Maybe business savy or taking advantage of the diaper bubble.
Did you know it costs pennies for fast food companies to make fries or sodas, but they sell them for $1+? How is that different from what Goodmama does? It's a diaper business after all, not a charity.

I think it's a poor business decision. Last time she tried to make more $$ by increasing production and outsourcing manufacturing, things tanked.
I think it would be smarter to keep 95% of the diapers at $35 and release occasional "limited" or "special" diapers that are more $$$. If once a month she had a $55 or $65 diaper, I could that being sustainable long-term but not a couple each week.
And it seems like $45+ is going to start being the rule, not the exception.
Luckily for me, we're pretty much sticking to knits which so far seem to still be $35.
I will say that I have tried a shitton of fitteds and legitimately like the fit (on DD) of GMs the best.

I'm not saying I think her prices are affordable, but I think alot of people tend to forget that she isn't a WAHM making diapers in her basement like most of the others out there. She has a staff to pay and a separate facility she rents. She tried outsourcing for a short time to lower costs and increase production but that's when all the drama about quality came about. Part of me feels bad for her because she seriously can never win since someone will always be upset about something.

its not the designed fabric its the characters ones like hello kitty that you need permission. She couldnt make a disney one w/o permission
Isn't there a Tinkerbell diaper?
OK, did a little digging on the web. And it appears that she can make a diaper with Disney fabric, but can't represent it as a licensed "Disney Diaper". There's law in the First Circuit supporting this right (and possibly elsewhere, too). But, there's nothing to stop Disney from suing her alleging trademark infringement if she were to make such a diaper, which they've done in the past and then settled out of court against other people.

I think part of the reason for the b*'ing, is that it is so inconsistent. I just don't see why the Alien one is that much more than another. Yes, it is her right, but it is also my right as a customer to leave...or just buy the used ones I can actually find for a decent price, now that I'm over my "used is gross" phase. :-D
Also, I don't think people should be Rude on her FB page, but it is perfectly valid for customers to complain about pricing. I've let a car dealer know I can buy cheaper elsewhere, etc...there are so many times during various diaper drama that I just want to say "um, this is how capitalism works..."

Yeah I totally understand that but it doesn't justify a $55 newborn diaper There is no way it is costing her $30 bucks to make that diaper. It doesn't make sense. She is pricing those so high bc they are "HTF" or highly sought after which is fine but its not because her cost is double that of her "cheaper" prints.
Did you know it costs pennies for fast food companies to make fries or sodas, but they sell them for $1+? How is that different from what Goodmama does? It's a diaper business after all, not a charity.
Ugh, why does someone ALWAYS say this when GM prices are discussed?? I don't think anyone is implying that she shouldn't be making money off of her diapers. I never once heard a complaint about her prices when they were all $35 (that is, $39.50 with shipping). I think it's a valid complaint that her prices have gone up so much.
And the argument that she needs to compete with the b/s/t market is bs IMO. She supports and encourages the b/s/t, and now is hiking her prices because of it? Sorry, but all that's going to happen is that people who buy the $55 dipes NIP will make MORE money off of them than selling a $35 diaper. So basically she is only making her brand less attainable on the b/s/t market as well to moms who just want cute, quality diapers. The crazies will move on to the next "it" thing and she'll have alienated the loyal, normal moms.
And trust me, I get your point. She deserves to make the money and not the crazy sellers trying to profit. But she fed the beast in the first place and now she has to deal with it.
Because if she makes people wait, then it's that much more exciting when she does start. I think she deliberately tries to get peoples' adrenaline going so that this time next week they need their GM fix.

Interesting. I do know that some fabric has printed on the selvage edge that it is not to be used for retail objects.
Sitting on a shelf at my parents house worth less than $1 each!

This.
Shady. GM deleted all the talk on the diapers being $45+ but kept the one telling her not to defend her prices.
edit: nm i see it now. it wasnt there a few mins ago.
