If you don't mind my asking, what is the cost of day-care in your area? I sent DH some quotes and he was amazed, even though it sounded right to me. I've been trying to make him realize it's not cheap and I think he finally gets it!
My daycare is $10.50 an hour in the infant room, less in the toddler room but I'm not sure by how much (probably either $9.50 or $10). I'm SO glad to only be using 15 or so hours a week.
We are paying 3.50 per hour for an infant. However, we only pay for when we are there, so our day care cost per month will be $400. I think that this is a steal! Plus she is willing to do cloth diapers.
This lady we were considering charges a flat rate of $90/week. I asked around my area and other day care providers and they said $90/week was a reasonable rate. However, DH and I decided I'm going to be staying home for the first year so I can catch up on school work and obtain my degree.
Ours is $350/week. And that's actually reasonable around here compared to some of the $540/week rates I was quoted. These are at centers, we didn't look at in-homes after a bunch that we called didn't have openings.
$260ish/week for infants, and that's AFTER we get a big discount because DH is a teacher/
That's for 5 days week/full time in a great center.. There are centers/in-home places in our area that are cheaper (we found some in the $150-$200 range) but we fell in love with this school and are going to save in other areas to make it work!
We pay $922/week (5 days, full time) for my 3 year old. I know the infant room is more, but I don't know the exact cost.
WOW!! That's a good amount more than my paycheck - before taxes/insurance/etc...I don't envy you!
sorry, sorry!! I edited, it should have been per month, not week!!
hehe, so funny! I was reading through the responses and you'd already edited the original by then and I noticed all of the Wow comments and couldn't figure out what was wrong!
We take DS to an in home daycare and pay $27/day(it is cheaper if he went full time, but he only goes 3 days/week). That includes breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, and wipes.
i guess it's not at all relevant for you - but here we pay $80 a day (that's discounted through my work - normally it would be around $92) so $1600 a month for full time care.
lucky for me i'll only be needing 3 days a week - god bless the ability to work from home 2 days a week.

Wow!! I'm shocked at how cheap daycare is for some of you ladies - I'm totally envious! I thought that w/living in the midwest, it would be cheaper than the coasts.
We'll be paying $180/week for LO to go to a center, which is pretty middle of the road here.

he costof daycare in centers near me ranges from $200/wk to $235/week.... We will be using the center that charges $200/week becasue several od DHs co-workers take their children there, and have glowing recommendations, and they sit on the board. Plus, my SIL just got a job there in the pre-school room.
Holy Smokes! I hadn't looked into day care rates because for the most part I get to be a SAHM, except I do part time office work for my FI to suppliment our income and I get to take LO with me to do it. I researched day care rates out here and its all about 250/week.
5 days a week at my center for an infant would cost $1200 - so $300 per week.
We only need daycare 3 days per week so for my toddler and infant it will be about $450 per week, so $1800 per month for my 2 in a center 3 days per week. This was a pretty average rate for all centers in my area.
I am so jealous of all of you! Daycare near me is 2100 a month! I would kill to pay way less than that. So not fair!
Where do you live? It's probably a high cost of living, meaning you probably make a lot more than those that are paying, say $100/week. At least that is what I assume for myself when I see people paying so little, when I am paying much more.
In my area (Baltimore/DC metro) it's about $160-$250/week for in home and $300-$350+/week for a center (these are full time infant rates). We ended up going with an in-home provider for $250/week which is expensive for in-home but still less than the centers we looked at.
And about the shocked DH, don't even get me started!! I started preparing DH for the cost of daycare before I was even pregnant so once we started looking, he'd have come to terms with it, but no such luck. He freaked out every time someone gave us the price of a daycare we were looking at.

What I've found is anywhere from $150-200 a month.
I'm guessing you mean per week.
In Omaha, NE, the average cost for centers seems to be about $185 - 200 for full-time infant care and the cost goes down as the child gets older. We've toured centers that charge up to $230 for infants though. We've already found our daycare which is the best facility we can imagine, and we'll be paying $184 for four days a week. We're happy with that.

home daycare was at minimum $175/week
when my son was 2.5, we paid $210/week for preschool
if i were to have put dd in the same daycare center as my son it was about $280/week i think
WOW!! That's a good amount more than my paycheck - before taxes/insurance/etc...I don't envy you!

It's around 1100-1200 for a pretty good one.
This is why I plan to only work two days a week and just do Mothers Day Out those days.

FT a the DC center we're going with is around 1200/month. We're doing two days a week and it's $772.
There are cheaper places, but I didn't really get good vibes when I went to some of the others.
Infant daycare at a chain is about $250/wk.
We send DD2 to a center that only takes kids over 1 who can walk and we pay $155/wk for full time.
If you break it down to cost per hour, it's not so bad. Not nearly as expensive as a nanny would be.
