Costs of day-care

Re: Costs of day-care

  • It's going to be about $750/month (infant full-time) for the daycare we chose, which is on the higher end of what's normal around here. We live in a low cost of living county of Florida.

  • We are looking at 2 in home day care and they range from 85-100 for infant and cloth diapering, it will drop to 75-90 when they get a bit older!  I live in the cheap part of the country!LOL  and they are certified!

  • We're going to pay $1680/month for full-time infant care.  It's totally insane.

What I've found is anywhere from $150-200 a month.

I'm guessing you mean per week. :)

In Omaha, NE, the average cost for centers seems to be about $185 - 200 for full-time infant care and the cost goes down as the child gets older.  We've toured centers that charge up to $230 for infants though.  We've already found our daycare which is the best facility we can imagine, and we'll be paying $184 for four days a week. We're happy with that.

    ugh...you're right!

  • Just a side note from someone who has been there, done that: when the centers tell you that cost goes down as the child gets older, that are not telling the full truth.

Every center I have used (4 so far) raises its prices at least once per calendar year -- once center did it twice in 1 year!

So, you usually end up paying the same price from infant care until they are in pre-school when you take all of the price increases into account.

Everytime you're up for a price drop (like when your kid is moved up to a new room, usually in September with the school year) the price goes up!

  • I pay $52/day because I pay drop in rates to just take DD Monday and Tuesdays.

  • The first center I called was $2800/month for full-time infant care (a Bright Horizons).  Yikes!

We are currently on wait lists for 2 smaller centers - one is $320/week and the other is $355/week.

The one I really want is $355/week, but their infant wait list is until March of 2012!  I'm hoping a few families will drop out.

We live in a HCOL area (Boston).

  • The center we enrolled in is $421 a week for full-time infants. That was actually one of the less expensive places we saw, but we definitely live in a high cost of living location (North side of Chicago).

$260ish/week for infants, and that's AFTER we get a big discount because DH is a teacher/

That's for 5 days week/full time in a great center.. There are centers/in-home places in our area that are cheaper (we found some in the $150-$200 range) but we fell in love with this school and are going to save in other areas to make it work!

Um.  I think you need to shop around.  I don't live far from you and that seems way high to me.   A friend of mine, who has 2 LOs of her own, will be watching our DD.  She is only charging $30/day.  However, even the centers near my house weren't charging $260/week.  Maybe 1 or 2 of them, but not all of them.

  • $1100 a month.

  • Here we have seen the spectrum range from $175-$245...believe it or not, the "good" at home day cares are charging up there b/c they have small 1 on 1 with the kids so it's actually a "premium"...the center we have a deposit with is 200/week

So we'll be paying $800/month...hopefully go to just part time in the summers when I will be off from work...bummer that I need to pay at all...but need to hold the spot!

  • We will be paying $305/week (full time - 5 days a week) for infant care in a center based daycare.  Sadly, that's the average price of the places I looked at.  Some were higher, some were lower.  It's an insane amount of money.

  • We will be paying $185/week for an in-home daycare.  If we went with a center, most of them average around $250 a week.  A bonus is that we won't be charged to hold our LO's place during my school breaks, which will save us money throughout the year.
