Success after IF

Ladies, I'm pregnant.

I have debated all day whether to post this now or after my first OB appointment on Monday but I could really use some support. I took two pregnancy tests last night that came up positive within seconds. Based on a pregnancy calculator I am between 7 and 8 weeks. This means if all goes well with this pregnancy I will be expecting a baby at the end of October. Brady won't even be one yet. Obviously this is a total shocker to DH and I considering it took nearly two years to get pregnant with B and we have only had sex twice since I had Brady. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. We always wanted another baby just not this soon. I'm afraid that I won't be able to give B the attention he needs as he will only be 11 months old when the new baby arrives. Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. I know there are a few women on here who have been in the same situation. Firsttogo...you around????

If you are friends with me on facebook, please do not say anything. Thanks ladies.

  • Congrats!!!! I imagine you are full of mixed emotions right now. The good news is that there are others who have done this before you and you have the board's support! You are going to get threw this and DS is going to have a built in playmate for life.
  • It will all work out, I promise you. I gave birth to my Brady when my twins just turned 1! Was it hard being pregnant chasing infants? Yes but in all honesty I just rested when they napped and I was fine!

  • wow!!!!  I can understand your trepidation, thinking about two under one is a scary thing, but i think having children that close together would be amazing after those first few tough years!  So while you work through your fears, I'm just going to be so freaking happy for you!!!!  Congratulations!!!
  • Congratulations!! I know it's probably so overwhelming right now, but it will work out!! I have known many children who are that close in age and they have all been super close.

    What a wonderful miracle!!

  • Congratulations!  I totally understand being scared about it, if all goes well we will also be having a baby in October, but ours will be 18 months apart.  I'm sure it will be tough at first, but I think it will be great when they are older and have a sibling so close in age.  After the new baby arrives you won't be able to imagine your life any other way and things will fall into place nicely.
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • Wow!  How exciting and scary at the same time!  You just need to take things one day at a time.  Enjoy the time that you have with Brady as an only child and then he'll have a sibling and he'll still get time too - it will just be shared.  :)

And CONGRATULATIONS!  That is just wonderful!

  • First off congrats! Secondly, I know a couple people IRL who this has happened to and they felt the same way you do. It will all work out. I was just on the phone with one of them and she was just saying that while her life is hectic she wouldn't have it any other way. Good luck!

  • First off, congrats!

I think anyone worries about not giving the first child as much attention as they will need.  Heck, Eli will almost be 3 when this one comes and I was worried.  Think of it this way, at 11 months you won't have to deal with a sassy 2 1/2 year old while pregnant.  You will be able to keep them both on the same type of schedule.  You will be able to spend alone time with Brady when new baby naps because he will be sleeping less.  It will all work out fine.  Brady will just think that's what happens and one day a baby will appear.  Eli asks daily if his baby is here, and then the next minute says he doesn't want a baby...I see a much smoother transition for you since you will be that close to the newborn stage.

  • I will tell you that my husband and his sister are only 11 months apart and they have both turned into wonderful adults and parents.  And they have some great stories to tell about the fun times they had together as kids.  Good luck and congratulations!
  • Congratulations!  I don't have any experience, but I'm sure it will all work out.  That's really so exciting!

  • Congratulations! How exciting! Don't worry-- yeah it's hard to have 2 little ones at the same time, but people do it all the time and it all works out fine. Just make sure you have some help set up for when the new baby arrives, whether that means having family near or hiring a babysitter or doing daycare for Brady during the early stages with your new little one.

  • Mine are 14 mos apart and it sounds like we had the same situation...2 yrs for #1 and we had sex one time that month and boom! Crazy.  2u2 is hard (well, for me), but it's also alot of fun.  I had all those emotions...even wished i wasn't prego :( But now it's the best. I promise the best gift you can give your LO is a sibling.  They will have so much fun together(and hopefully entertain each other so you can have some peace).  This is what i keep looking forward to :)

    GL! and Congrats!
