Please give me ideas. What did you do? We're having the party at a restaurant so we're already spending lot of money; so I don't feel like paying for an entertainer like a balloon maker, face painter etc.

We are having coloring pages, robot dance competition, bubbles, a traseure hunt. I want to include some other games, but I have to figure out which ones.
Seriously? I am jealous. I want a mariachi band for my own birthday.
We are having no hired entertainment. If the kids get bored, they can play in our yard or watch a movie. The party is only a couple of hours long, anyway, and nobody is obligated to stay the whole time.
Nothing and at this age I don't feel bad about it at all. She has Zero interest in that sort of stuff so why spend a fortune on something? My feeling is she A) wont care about and wont remember. I figure we can save the money for a year or two from now when she actually cares about/remembers that sort of thing. Not to mention I don't want a giant production because then every year from here on out it will be like that. I want her birthdays (at least for now) to be something simple where we celebrate as a family, have some cake, open a few gifts, take some cute photos and enjoy the day together.
Nothing. We're having his 1st b-day party at our house. He'll be crawling (or walking) all over, being picked up & passed from person to person & who knows what else! Plus there will be some other kids so I'm sure we'll have a fwe of his toys out.
We're doing a beach theme, so our entertainment is a slip n slide, splash pools, and a sandbox (for sand castles & buried treasure). I thought about doing a sun visor craft, but there's only 1-2 kids over age 4 and they are not the crafty types.
we won't hire anyone but I always try to plan some type of activity for the kids that come to the party. I am still trying to decide... possibilities are decorating cupcakes, another craft project, scavenger hunt in our house, and just playing some games (duck duck goose, pin the tail on the donkey, hide n seek)

LO's birthday is at a firehouse (DH is a volunteer firefighter). I thought about just putting down a large play mat and bringing some of his bigger toys. There will be quite a few kiddos there around his age, or a few months younger. I hope DH can give a tour of a firetruck so that could keep the older ones a little entertained.
I don't plan on doing any formal entertaining for a group of 1-2 year olds. They find their belly buttons and tissue paper interesting.
We have a tot lot in our neighborhood- basically our side lawn. That is supplying my entertainment. And if I get fancy, I might tie a ballon to the swings. Or give them tissue paper.
Re: What in the world do you do for LO's bday entertainment?

*gigglesnort*, I know you hate birthday posts, but stop misleading people!
Though, LOL at the image of the mariachis trying to play "las ma?anitas" while a bunch of kids throw confetti and punch them in the crotch.

Nothing. She's one. She won't even realize those types of things are going on.
We will have it at our house so she can play with her toys if she wants. We will having coloring books and such for the 3 year olds who are coming.
