Re: whats your "family car" ?
I have a 2007 Saturn Ion - LOVE IT!! I know LO isn't here yet, and I bought it before conceiving, but it really is a great family car!
4 seats ? cup holders in front AND back ? huge trunk and lots of leg room in the back seat!
It has the oomph to get-up & go, great breaks. It's a 4 door, but the back ones are suicide doors, so it looks sporty still.
I'm 23, so it's nice to have a sleek/affordable car.
Right now I have a CRV and because I'm not working I can't upgrade.
I like the Odyssey and Pilot. I refuse to buy Toyota. DS wants me to consider the Nissan van. When it comes time I will test drive them all.
I'm also torn between an SUV and a van so I guess the test drive will help me decide.

I hope one day we can get an SUV
But for Now it's our Car a Pontiac Sunfire. It does the job and is a safe car.
We just traded my plymouth neon in for a Honda Odyssey. We went for reliability and functionality. I'm all about the power sliding doors, space and roof rack! We've only had it about 2 weeks, but I'm loving it.
Before this our "family" car was DH's nissan maxima. It was definitely a squeeze for the 3 of us to go on vacation for a week with all of our stuff. There was no way we'd be able to do it with 2 kids.
I drive an 08 Jeep Patriot. I LOVE it. We living up in the mountains and we needed something that was 4 wheel drive, DH and I also wanted something we could take up for some of the off road stuff we do. It also gets ok gas milage for it's size, and I can easily throw all the baby stuff in the back, and we can get two carseats in the back seat easily.
We felt comfortable with the safety ratings and I trust Jeep 100%. Plus we got a great deal on it. I am so happy with it and I don't think I will ever drive anything but a jeep. The other car we were looking into was a Subaru Outback, but this one basically feel into our lap.

This. Also, mine is paid for, so that makes it our optimal family car. If we were buying, we'd still try for an SUV, but maybe smaller. The gas is killer at the moment.
We have the Acura MDX and bought it because of the 3rd row seating too!
if i could get what i want, i want a jeep liberty.
but for now i am driving a 2003 chevy cavalier. boo. however, our "family car" will be my FI's car. a 2010 chevy impala. 4 doors. it rides great and it is quiet inside and is better on gas than an suv and the trunk is really spacious for being just a car.
Subaru Forrester XLT Turbo. Great car!! Very safe, smooth drive, AWD, moon roof, heated seats, airbags everywhere and awesome storage and leg room. I am very loyal to the Subaru family!

We just got the 2011 Ford Edge Limited and I LOVE it.
Short front end so it has a great turning radius, very peppy, spacious. We got the sunroof and the Sony console which is gorgeous. I also love the Ford Sync. I talk to the car to get directions, change music on my MP3 player and tell it who to call when I need to make a call on my cell phone. Totally hands free calling, because the microphone in the car pics up all my speech and it plays the caller through the speaker system.
Sticker price was 36,9
We compared it to the highlander, murano, equanox, traverse, and sorrento and this won our hearts hands down.
If I were shopping for a new car I would pick the Honda Odyssey or the Nissan Quest Good luck! I am super jealous! I would love to replace my 11 year old car, but there is nothing wrong with it.

We're in a VW Golf right now. It's going to be mighty squishy once LO arrives, but we're in no place to upgrade right now.
We'll have to get a new (to us) car once LO#2 is out of the infant seat. We're looking at Subaru Outbacks or Legacys. I like that they're low to the ground, and once we're back into our winter sports we'll need AWD/4WD. We also have a medium sized dog and may get one more in a year or 2 and those cars have huge amounts of hatch space.
LOVE LOVE LOVE my Honda Odyssey! I love the sliding doors, love the space inside (took my whole family to look at Xmas lights and we all fit comfortably!), love the ease of the seats folding down, love how it drives (better than the Sienna in my opinion)... honestly... I love this car and I am so glad that I got it. My sister has 1 kid and going on a trip for even a weekend can manage to fill up her van... my brothers both have vans too with 2 and 3 kids and they couldn't survive without it... so if you plan to have more than 1 kid in the next 10 years, I suggest a van! I opted for the van over the SUV for the ease of the 3rd row for friends and family... and eventually buckling in kids!

This exactly. The one thing I don't like about my 4runner is the gas mileage. I think I get an average of 13MPG, but I do have a 4X4 with the V8 engine so I think that may have something to do with the crappy gas mileage.
I have a 2005 Buick Lacrosse (4 door full-size car). I love it because- it's big enough that DH doesn't whine too much about it (he's 6'3 and dislikes all cars - wants me to get an SUV like his). I like the outer design it's curvy and elegant looking. I like the features and little details inside- the fake wood, the different buttons and options (switch from km to miles at a touch- great for border cities), oil life monitor (don't overpay for oil changes), sunroof (I know this is an 'option' but that it was affordable was nice) and I like that I only paid $14,000 in 2010 for it with 75,000km on it (I live in a small Canadian city so it's probably much cheaper in the states,
I love that it's a V6 but not a gas-guzzler and gets much better highway mileage than DH's explorer so it's great for trips. We only plan on having 2 kids, but it also has 3 car-seat anchors in the back so it technically could fit 3 car seats (asuming they were small enough versions). I also like that the child lock only locks the back seat window/doors etc- so adults don't have to deal with it.
We currently drive a 2007 Jeep Liberty which will work out great for after LO comes. It has 4 wheel drive, 4 doors, a roomy backseat, and a great cargo area in the back. We plan to upgrade to a Jeep Commander in the next year or so (for sure before LO #2) just so that we'll have the 3rd row of seating and a bigger interior. Besides or LO we have a Great Dane that goes with us everywhere so we definitly need a roomy vehicle.
That being said, I will forever drive a Jeep! I just love them. They get decent gas mileage and have a nice, smooth ride.
We just bought our family car last weekend! After researching size, gas mileage, etc. We went with the Nissan Rogue, mini SUV type but with good gas mileage and enough space for our future LO. We got a great deal on it and when I went to insure it, my agent said it had so many safety features that we were able to get a great rate on it too.
My DH has a 2010 Honda Pilot that is his work vehicle that we use on the weekends and go to anywhere together. His company wants him to have a good vehicle that our family can use and that he likes. We definitely like it and it is nice to have more room than we have in my Jeep.
