DD may be starting to STTN - during her longest stretches, she went for 7 hrs Fri, 10 Sat, 8 Sun, was back to only 4 Mon and Tues, but then went 7 hours last night. If she goes much longer than 4 hours, I wake up uncomfortable, and I've been pumping - only a little from the side from which she should eat next (to stop the leaking), and almost "all" from the other side. Is this what I should be doing? I don't want to pump too much (seeing as how I really have no idea when she'll want to eat next), but I also don't want to go too long due to comfort/fear of losing my supply issues. Any and all advice is appreciated!
Re: Sleeping Longer at Night and Pumping
From a supply stand point you could always pump both sides completely and if she wakes up nurse from both sides until you feel she's got all she can get and if she still is hungry give her a bottle of some of the pumped milk. That way you can drain as much milk as possible, especially if she doesn't wake up. If she does start STTN though you will be perpetuating the night time milk production so I'm not sure how you feel about that, if you would continue to get up and pump in the middle of the night or if you'd prefer to sleep? I'm jealous, my almost 11 month old is still waking up multiple times a night. It's really starting to get old but I have such a hard time leaving him cry.
Edit: I think they consider a 5 hour stretch STTN. Congrats!
Thanks! I would prefer to sleep, but I'm afraid that she's going to continue to STTN some nights and then only sleep for 4 hour stretches other nights, so I will probably continue to get up, even if she doesn't.
I can't even think about letting DD cry! DH is pushing it once she hits three/four months, but when she wakes up, she is actually hungry - there is no way I can just let her scream!
