Baby-sitter and new car seat question

DD goes to a baby sitter two days a week. Since it is not a day care and the baby sitter only watches DD and her own DS she will go places with them in the car. So far this has worked out just fine because DD is still in the infant carrier. However, she is getting too big and long for her seat and is almost a year so we are looking at a convertible.

So my questions are, for those who have a baby sitter who takes LO places, do you provide a seperate car seat for them to use that you do not have to take out of your car each day? Or do you just have one and take it out and put it back in each day LO goes to the sitter?  How difficult are the car seats to take out and put in? Or is there one that is easier than others? I know there is the Graco one with a base, but at $300 I wonder if it is worth it...

Re: Baby-sitter and new car seat question

  • We have 2 extra car seats, both are cosco sceneras (around $60 each, I think).  DH and I both have britaxes in our cars, which are heavy and a pain to install, so we wanted to just install and leave them.  One of the extra car seats is in our main nanny's car permanently, the other is kept in our house and used by other sitters as needed.  From what I read when looking at the seats, the scenera had just as good safety ratings, it just doesn't appear as comfortable (which is ok with us, since he only goes on short trips with the sitters).

  • The babysitter and each grandma have a cosco scenera.

Think about when it's 40 and raining and your kid is having a cranky day -- you do not want to be having to schlep a car seat in and out of the car.

  • We have a "spare set" of seats for anyone who isn't a regular driver to use (i.e. my MIL, Father and sister).  The graco seat is $300, but an extra base will cost you another $100 (which I think is ridiculous) ... IMO for $400 you can get two Britax Boulevards (when they are on sale) or plenty of other safe seats out there and not have to move it from car to car.

  • I'd go the Cosco Scenera route for your sitter.  My parents have them in each of their cars for DD...you can get one on sale for about $40 at Target and not have the inconvenience of moving carseats.  Not to mention, I'd want to make sure it's properly installed all the time and that's hard to do if it's constantly being moved around.  I'm with the poster re: getting two Boulevards for $400.  I wouldn't spend $300+ for anthing Graco, no offense.

  • Thanks for all the replies. I didn't know there was one for such a good price. I will go that route. I really didn't like the idea of taking the seat out every day (lets be honest I am not even a fan of carrying the infant carrier everywhere.) and yes, the Graco one is so expensive I feel I could get two or three seats for that price. Thanks again!
