Avent Pump vs. Medela Pump

I am going to get a new pump tomorrow and wanted to know what everyone recommended. I know you can't go wrong with the Medela but was wondering if any of you had the Avent and what you thought about it. Thank you ladies!

Re: Avent Pump vs. Medela Pump

  • I would recommend looking at an Ameda Purely Yours pump. You can get it for around $150 on amazon (just the pump you don't need the bag and extra crap). I own one and it is great. It comes highly recommended on the breastfeeding board too and is another big name used by hospitals pump brand. I've heard about problems with the level of suction on the Avent Isis pump.

I will never, ever buy a Medela after all the recall issues and based on this article I read:

    https://justwestofcrunchy.com/2011/01/19/the-problems-with-medela/

The Ameda is also a closed end system so can be used for multiple children or users.

Another highly recommended brand is Hygeia and they allow you to do a 2 week trial of their pumps which is huge since you cannot return a pump under any circumstance once it has been opened.

    Good luck!

  • Oh you can definitely go wrong with Medela. I'm on my third PISA, and honestly my first probably worked better than my replacements. I thought I had done my research, but now I wish I would have chosen a different brand.

  • I have the Medela Swing and just adore it.  While it is a single pump, vs. a double (less time spent pumping), it has been brilliant, and when I went back to work for 2 months, it was a dream to use in the first aid room.  Medela was also great when I had to phone up for a replacement adaptor because the first one went kaputz - got it the next day by Purolator.  I highly reccomend Medela, but I have absolutely no experience with Avent - so I'm completely biased.  Good Luck!

  • I had the Isis IQ double and loved it. I attempted to pump with the medela at the hospital and nothing came out, then two days later I used the Avent and it worked great. (It could be because more milk came in by then) I liked that you could set you could program your own pace every time. The only downfall is it's really hard to find the phalanges to replace old ones. The price is much better then the medela one as well.

  • My computer is acting all screwie (sorry),  I also own the Medela Swing and love it.  Had a suction issue after 3 months and called the company.  They troubleshooted with me and after 15 min, they solved the issue (it was my fault...I didn't relize a piece came off...opps).  They were wonderful and patient with me.
