Baby Names

Is anyone else fighting their inner "dork?"

I'm getting close to my due date and this is our last LO (I'm very aware that this is my last chance to use my favorite names), and I find I'm all of a sudden finding it difficult not to scrap my fairly sensible baby names and go to the dark side. I secretly love LOTR and Star Trek. Embarrassed I know that it would be mean to shackle a kid with either Tiberius or Rohan, but I kind of want to; it really doesn`t help that DH completely supports the idea. I need to go and grab a good book and stay away from SciFi network for the next four weeks. Embarrassed

  • I LOVE your real name choices (and your current LO's names) don't go messing it up now!

Get some cats/goldfish/turtles/pet rocks and name them all the far out there Star-Trek names you want!

  • James Tiberius? No? Sounds like a nice name to ne, lol.

  • I have to stifle the urge to put Anakin on my list. I try to keep a "just say no!" attitude.
  • I wanted out little girl's middle name to be Eowyn. My husband talked me down from the ledge.

But there are ways you can do it. I think Aurelia has a very LOTR edge to it, even if it's not a name from there -- like Gabrielle/Galadriel or Eleanor/Elanor. Or you could name your child James Thomas -- it's not James Tiberius, but you still get James T. I actually know someone who did this last one.

LOL. My thought exactly. I recently named a cat Tiberius (after the historical figure) and my in-laws immediately referenced Star Trek. I had no idea how popular this was!

See we could probably pass it off as a historical/literary thing, what with our other  LO's and pet names choices, but the reality is that we would have named our child Tiberius after James T. Kirk. Embarrassed

  • Our friends just named their baby Zane after a character from Eureka.  DH always wanted to name a baby Bruce Wayne (Batman's alter-ego, if you didn't know)--luckily, he's over that one.  There are plenty of sci-fi names I'd be okay with, the giant geek that I am (points to Star Wars avatar), but Bruce Wayne is NOT one of them. :)

  • I wanted to name our son Clark. So I'm no help. Our last name is Superman's alter ego's last name Embarrassed My H had to fill out the paperwork before I got to it, he was lucky I was heavily medicated and focusing on trying to go to the bathroom since the nurses threatened to put the catheter back in if I didn't go.

  • I like Tiberius but I LOVE Alistair.  So  Alistair has my vote for the boy!

  • I love LOTR too and love Rohan.  I think it sounds like a great name:)

  • You get points for Tiberius and Rohan being real names prior to the sci-fi/fantasy they were attached too. Honestly, I'm not much help. I give my inner dork free reign over the middle name spot.

My DH wanted Bruce Wayne Lastname, as well. :)

  • Both DH and I like James Tiberius.  We keep it on our list, but don't think we would use it.

Since we are having boy/girl twins, he would love to name them Luke and Leia.  This combo I'm more inclined to say "no" to as its much more obvious (not sure if that is the right word).

    1. You could have picked worse names :)
    2. A lady in my childbirth class used TIberius as a middle name for her son (William Tiberius)
    3. I have a friend who named her son "Clark" after superman so anything is possible
    4. I LOVE Rohan, and prefer it to Alistair which is a bit too hoity toity for me but still a good name
    5. Go for it!!
