Cute ways to tell your parents about grandbaby on the way?

My sister is trying to figure out a creative way to tell our folks that she is pregnant, and we need some help!  Any suggestions?

Re: Cute ways to tell your parents about grandbaby on the way?

  • We met my mom at the airport with a big sign that said "Welcome Grandma"

  • For #2 we told most of our family with a t-shirt on big brother. Except, the person I was most excited about telling was my mom and G said, "Mommy has a baby in her tummy!" the minute she walked in the door. LOL.

  • sonagram picture in a nice "grandparents" frame.

Wear a t-shirt that says Im PG and see how long it takes to figure out?

Ask about what they are doing next fall and see if they are availble for baby sitting?

  • Well, since we're crazed dog people and our dog is our "baby," we got him a "I'm gonna be a Big Brother" t-shirt, and he ran into the house ahead of us.  Once they'd read it, we gave them an u/s picture and little newborn baby booties with birds on them (b/c my H calls his mom "bird")...It was fun.

My mom and dad we just called and told.

  • We just told with our first over the phone.

With our second, we created a slideshow of DD throughout the year or so, and then added to welcome our newest addition later in the year.

  • I gave my dad a "present"...it was a World's Best Grandpa shirt.  He opened it and seeing his face turn as he figured it out was priceless!
  • A ridiculously long list I got from the nest years ago...

CREATIVE AND/OR CHEESY WAYS TO ANNOUNCE PREGNANCY

    WAYS TO TELL DH

Put an ?I?m the big brother/sister? shirt on your first child, pet, etc.

Get a bunch of pink & blue balloons and some that say "it's a boy/girl" and
let them loose in the hallway before he comes home.

Buy a rattle and leave a note on it saying "Sorry to rattle you, but we're
    having a baby!"

Bake cupcakes and write one letter of ?I?m Pregnant? on each cupcake, then
mix them up and serve them.

Write "Hi, Daddy!" in a speech bubble (using washable marker) coming out of
her belly button and let him find it

Put some tiny baby-sized shoes inside his, and let him find them when he?s
    getting ready for work.

Take a picture of the HPT and put it on his computer's screen saver...wait
    for him to find it

Make a dinner of baby back ribs, baby carrots, Dad?s root beer to drink, and
pudding (in a baby food jar) for dessert, and wait for him to figure out the
    theme

Give him the book ?My Boys Can Swim,? an ?I Love Daddy? bib, an infant-sized
jersey of his favorite team, or a onesie with a cute message ("Who's Your
Daddy?" Star Wars, "Worth the wait," etc.)

Put a hamburger bun in the oven and tell DH that the oven is making a weird
noise. Let him open the oven, find the bun, and figure it out.

Make him a basket of baby-related foods: POP Tarts, Sugar DADDIES, POPcorn,
    DAD?s root beer, etc.

Order Chinese food and replace the fortune in his fortune cookie with ?You
will become a father on (EDD)?.

If there are ?Expectant Mother? parking spaces in your area, drive somewhere
with DH as the passenger and park in one. When he says, ?Wait, we can?t park
here? say, ?Oh, yes we can!?

Have a pizza delivered, but call ahead and have them spell out ?DAD? in
olives or some other topping on the pizza.

Book a meal at your favorite restaurant and order a half-bottle of
champagne. When it arrives, explain that you won't be drinking alcohol for a
while as you give a meaningful pat to your tummy (this could also be done
over a romantic meal at home).

Go to a sporting or other event and have him congratulated over the PA
system or on the big screen.

Put ?pickles and ice cream? on the grocery list.

Buy a Father?s Day card when they?re available (even if you?re not expecting
yet)?when you find out you?re pregnant, give him the card (and a gift, if
you want) and tell him it?s HIS ?Father?s Day?.

When you go out to eat or for ice cream, order MUCH more than you usually
do, or something way more fattening than you normally do. When he mentions
it, tell him you?re eating for two now!

Ask him to make dinner, and leave out some spaghetti, meat, and a jar of
Prego sauce. Tape on a strip of paper that says, ?(Your Name) is?? above the
word ?Prego? on the jar. (If he doesn?t notice, call out from the other room
asking him what kind of sauce he?s using and try to draw his attention to
    it.)

Tell him there aren?t enough recent photos of the two of you together. Take
a full-length one with a digital or Polaroid camera (so you can both look at
it right away), show it to him, and tell him this is the first picture of
the ?three of you.? (This would be a great first photo for the baby?s book!)

Take him out to dinner and pre-arrange with the waiter to serve his beverage
in a baby bottle, put a high chair at your table, or list the specials as,
?Baby back ribs with a side of baby carrots and a tall glass of Dad?s Root
    Beer.?

Wear a shirt from franklypregnant.com or another maternity shirt site
(?Knocked up,? ?Baby? with arrow pointing at belly, etc.) and greet him at
the door when he comes home, or show up at his workplace.

    For Valentine?s Day:

? Get him a Valentine from the baby

? Get a bunch of boxes of those conversation hearts and keep only ones with
phrases including ?baby? on them?put them all in one box so it looks new and
see if he notices the theme when he eats them.

? Make the baby-themed dinner as a Valentine?s Day celebration dinner

? Take him out for a nice dinner. Tell the waiter to set up a high chair at
your table before you get there. When DH asks why it?s there, tell him you
just wanted to see what it will be like when you go out NEXT Valentine?s
    Day.

    For Christmas:

? Get one of the Hallmark ?parents to be? or stork w/ baby ornaments and
hand it to him to put on the tree when you?re decorating it together.

? Leave a ?note from Santa? in his stocking, saying that he?s been such a
good husband (or father, if you have other kids) this year that he will be
getting the best gift of all?but it will take 9 months for delivery.

? Get him a video camera as his gift, and then tell him you want to try it
out. (Have a video already inside). Videotape him while you tell him the big
    news!

    For Easter:

? Make him an Easter basket with all pink and blue plastic eggs. Fill them
with chocolates from www.colorworks.com or www.saywhatchocolates.com,
personalized with your big news as the message. Or, fill them all with
regular candy except one, in which you can put the baby poem or a pacifier.

? There?s an Easter Baby/Dough Baby recipe that you can find online?it?s a
traditional Italian Easter cookie (that doesn?t look anything like a baby,
btw). Make them for him and tell him what they are.

? Make him an Easter basket of things he would normally like (tools,
favorite candies, sports stuff, whatever) and then, under all the fake
plastic grass, include a ?World?s Greatest Dad? or similar keychain.

Ways to tell Family & Friends

Pull out a baby name book at a gathering and just start asking what people
    think of different names

Take a photo of you and DH holding a sign saying ?We?re having a baby!? and
    send it out

Get silver fortune cookies from Lenox (or real ones) and put your own
fortunes inside: ?You will be a grandma?, etc.

Take a group photo of everyone at a gathering?instead of saying ?Say
cheese!?, say, ?Say ___ is pregnant!? and get a photo of everyone?s reaction
(or, say, ?Say January 4th!? or whatever the due date is, and when they ask
why, don?t say anything?take a photo as it dawns on them)

    Wear a T-shirt from franklypregnant.com

Put a framed poem or ?Baby _________ due EDD? at the bottom of a huge box,
fill it with pink and blue balloons, and wrap it up as a gift for the new
    grandparents.

Go to one of those places where you make your own pottery, and paint plates
that say ?Congratulations, Grandma/pa!? on them. Serve your parents dinner
    on their special plates.

Give out chocolates with personalized wrappers announcing the big news:
    www.saywhatchocolates.com

Bring a dish to a family gathering with ?We?re having a baby!? printed on
it?as the food gets eaten, see who notices the message that appeared!

Set up the nursery and then invite them over. Give them a ?tour? (if the
house isn?t new, tell them you?ve added/changed a few things) and save the
nursery for last. Open the door and say, ?And this is the baby?s room!?

?specials.? Or, have the waiter bring out pickles & ice cream for dessert
and put it in front of you.

If recently married, show your wedding album/scrapbook?on the last page, put
the +HPT date, a photo of the HPT, and the words ?to be continued?? Wait for
    them to get there!

Put an ?I?m the big brother/sister? shirt on your first child, pet, etc.

Make a pretend movie ad: ?Baby ____, Coming to a Crib Near You on (EDD)!?
List you and DH as the producers.

Bring cupcakes with pink/blue icing to a gathering

Make a compilation CD of songs with ?Baby? in the title and give it as a
gift, or play it while in the car with them. See if they notice the theme!

Go to www.wheeloffortune.com and make a puzzle with the question ?Guess
what?? and the answer ?____________ is pregnant!?

Go ?trick or treating? at relatives? houses for Halloween, dressed as a very
pregnant mom (pillows under your shirt) and an excited dad with a video
    camera (taping their reactions)

For New Year?s Eve, write a ?prediction? about each person for the New Year,
and put it inside a balloon (?You will become an aunt.? ?You will become a
grandmother.? etc.). Blow them all up, with the one for you saying you?ll
have a baby on EDD, and then have each person pop their balloon at midnight.
Pop yours last and read it aloud when everyone has the idea.

Get one of those picture frames where you can record a 10-second message, or
make a Build-a-Bear with a voice box, and record the baby?s heartbeat. Give
them the frame with ?Baby _______ due ___? printed inside, or the bear in a
    bag with tissue paper.

On Thanksgiving, have everyone go around the table and say what they?re
thankful for. When it?s your turn, say you?re thankful for the new baby. Or,
offer to say grace and include the baby in the prayer.

For Thanksgiving, make a card with the ?Top 5 Things to be Thankful for This
Year.? Put the first 4 on the outside, and then list the news as #1 on the
inside (with an ultrasound photo, if you have one)

For Christmas, sneak a tiny pink/blue stocking onto the mantle along with
everyone else?s, and wait for someone to notice

Send out Christmas cards and sign them with both of your names + Baby
    Lastname (due EDD)

Get your parents a ?grandparents? ornament for their tree as one of their
    gifts

    Send out cards from www.fetalgreetings.com

On Christmas Day, someone?s b-day, etc. say you?re going to get their
present, then walk back in with a big bow around your belly

    For Easter:

? Make them an Easter basket with all pink and blue plastic eggs. Fill them
with chocolates from www.colorworks.com or www.saywhatchocolates.com,
personalized with your big news as the message. Or, fill them all with
regular candy except one, in which you can put the baby poem or a pacifier.

? There?s an Easter Baby/Dough Baby recipe that you can find online?it?s a
traditional Italian Easter cookie (that doesn?t look anything like a baby,
btw). Make them for them and tell them what they are.

Mock Mastercard commercial on a greeting card (alter it to fit your
    needs/situation)

    Outside: Card: $2
    Postage: 34c
    Film developing: $8
Inside: Telling you there are 3 people in this picture... priceless. (Put a
pic of you and DH there, maybe holding a sign that says ?Baby Lastname, due
EDD? or ?Congratulations?you?re going to be a grandma/pa!?)

    Frame this poem:
I do not have a face to see,
    Or put inside a frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss,
    I don't yet have a name.
You can't yet hold my tiny hands,
    Nor whisper in my ear.
It's still too soon to sing a song,
    Or cuddle me so near.
But all will change come (month due),
That?s when they say I'm due.
    I'm your new grandson or grandaughter;
    I can't wait till I meet you.
All I ask between now and then
Is your patience while I grow.
I promise I'll be worth the wait,
Because of all the love we'll know.
So what I have to give you now,
Is a wish to you from me.
I cannot wait to be a part
    Of this wonderful family.

  • We made a Mothers Day card with 4 tiered pages - the first page said "happy mothers day, a little late"

Second page said "but we're early wishing you a happy thanksgiving"

3rd page"But you have to wait till Nov for to hold the special order"

4th page: Baby Mystery estimated due date with a sonogram pic

Those were the approx. words - my mom carried it around and showed it to EVERYONE.
