Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

how long did you get a positive pg test?

I had my natural m/c on the 26th, and the spotting stopped yesterday, but I'm still getting a faint positive on a pregnancy test. Should it be neg by now or is this normal?

Re: how long did you get a positive pg test?

  • My m/c also began on the 26th. I had an u/s this past Wed, showing some tissue remaining. As long as that tissue is there, the doc said I'd get a + test. I go for another u/s next Mon, but just wanted to see if I had passed it all yet, and still got a + yesterday, it wasn't really even that faint. But I'm still going between spotting and a light flow. I don't think there really is a "normal", as each of our badies are different, but I wouldn't be too alarmed that the test isn't neg yet. Just be sure to follow up with your doctor!

  • I think it depends.  It took me just past 2 weeks to get a negative test, but I honestly think that hcg was still in my system at lower leves (under 20) for 4 weeks.

ETA:  depends= depends on how far along you are, other unkown factors, etc...

Also, I read the post above mine and will tell you that I had a complete and natural miscarriage with no remaining tissue and still ended up with hcg for awhile.

  • Just wanted to add... I know exactly how crappy it feels waiting for this to be "over"

Is your doc going to do another u/s or follow your betas? Just wondering... ((hugs))

  • I had a miscarriage at 13 weeks and at 4 weeks (post d&c) I definitely still had a +hpt.  I took one at 5 weeks at it was much more faint (but my betas were around 45).  I am getting my betas checked again tomorrow and will until I go back to 0.  Everyone is different though.  Sounds like if you are done spotting and the line is already faint it will be negative fairly soon.  GL

  • I think it depends on how far along you were. My last beta was 550. We learned on 1/13 our baby no longer had a heartbeat. That day my beta was 58,000. I was about 11 weeks then.
