There are newer (and better, in my opinion) forms of social media but those aren't technologically advanced either. Technology really isn't the issue. Facebook has made a lot of mistakes with privacy, revenue and overall vision with no plans to correct their course. It's a bloated mess.

I would still like to know what they are.  Giving vague answers doesn't really help your case much.

  • DH left for Vegas (again) last night for a bacelor party this weekend. I sent him a text last night before I went to bed saying that I already missed him.  My confession?  I am so glad that I get the bed to myself for the next 3 nights and that I won't wake up to a face full of stank breath beside me for a little while.  I love him but sometimes its nice to be alone Surprise

Nobody I know has changed their name after marriage, and only the luddites I know use facebook. Clearly we know different people..

And there is nothing wrong with that whatsoever. I wouldn't call people who hadn't changed their name bizarre, though. That'd be rude.

Sorry, didn't realize 'bizarre' was a rude word. This is all stuff I don't encounter in my day-to-day life, so when I do see it, it makes me raise an eyebrow and say "huh."

So where the heck do you live that no one changes their name when married, believes in god or uses facebook??

Ok, I just had to butt in here and make sure everyone noticed the caption under her LO's Siggy. Given the conversation it just made me chuckle...carry on Luddites.

Huh.  I don't really know what to say about that.

It's a joke about where I went to undergrad and my husband did his PhD. If you think kids who go to MIT are social lepers, you should visit CMU sometime. It also probably explains why I don't encounter name changes, facebook users or god. Most of my friends are engineers or scientists who don't get married until their 30s. Like I said, it's who you know, and we obviously know different people.

I work for female engineers.  The ones that are married use their maiden name professionally and their husband's name in their regular daily life. This is because they'd already become known in the field prior to marriage and preferred to have their pre-marriage professional work to be connected to their post-marriage professional work.

Even if you do know "different people," I don't understand why you would think that people who change their name, believe in God, or use facebook are "bizarre."  I don't use facebook, but I certainly don't consider my peers who use facebook to be bizarre.  Given the large number of people who do these things, it seems like a fairly standard, non-weird choice.

We really are different.  I would much prefer FB, Twitter and other forms of social media go the way of the do-do.  People need to hone their social skills, not replace them with nameless anonymous posts with no hope of ever looking up from their Smartphone/iPad/whatever to actually interact with humans that are sharing the same air they are.

This.  My co-worker and his wife hyphenated because she already had a paper published under her maiden name. (She is working on a psychology degree, I believe.)

Yeah, you're seriously coming across elitist, dude. I was trying to put it mildly and in a non-confrontational manner, but my low IQ and toothless comrades were making it difficult.

  • Wow, this is already super long...

I have been 'snowed in' since Tuesday.  I'm supposed to be working from home and I have done approximately 1 hour of work in the last 4 days.  The Peanut's regular daycare is approximately 4 houses away and I could walk him down there and get some actual work done, but I don't want to.  That didn't stop me from whining to DH last night that I haven't gotten any work done because DS has been clingy.  I am such a pathetic loser :)

Ha!  The thing is, it doesn't seem like she's backpeddling.  She's saying the exact same thing she said earlier with no real backing down or changing her story.

There's just something about what she's saying and how she's saying it that makes me think she just posted that stuff for sh!ts and giggles to see how we would react.

But CINEMA! She didn't say it like it was a bad thing. We must be just reading into it. She just knows people. OTHER people who are not us or our friends, or 90% of the fukkin' population.

It's us--clearly. All in our heads for sure!

I'm an engineer.  I got married when I was 29.  I changed my name.  I believe in God and I use FB.  I guess I missed the thesis presentation on this new fangled way of thinking.

I give the side-eye to people who complain about their child's sleep habits and then won't do anything to fix them.  You can believe that kids are too young or that crying is cruel, or they won't sleep without nursing/paci/that picture of Dumbo or whatever blanket excuse you want to give about sleep training.  But if that is your choice, I don't want to hear you whine about how you are tired.  I think you are doing a disservice to your child by not encouraging healthy sleep habits.
? encouraging healthy sleep habits? Please enlighten me to what those might be that dont include the list you rambled off up there... go on, I'm waiting.

    Yes, me too.

I think it is ridiculous to expect your sleep life to be the same as before a child.  I also think it is insane to think you can schedule or train an infant.  We have routines in our house, but I'm sorry, life changes when you have a baby.  For the first little bit they dictate your life not the other way around.

Oh trust me, I don't expect my life to be the same after having DS.  And I admit that we are lucky to have a good sleeper now.  Part of that was luck, part of it is our being consistent about watching his cues and developing a routine that works for us.  His first few months were hell.   And I know that his sleep will change again, like this week when he has been up super early.  So I am pretty realistic about no night being guaranteed.

But I get frustrated when people complain about how crappy their kid is sleeping when they are contributing to the problem.  Don't tell me your child is tired when you deliberately keep them up way past their bedtime or that you got them accustomed to sleeping on your chest and now 4 months later your back hurts and you are tired of the couch.  And if your child needs certain props to sleep, that's fine.  But when what you are doing is preventing your child from getting the sleep that s/he needs and ultimately developing self-soothing techniques, I don't think that is good.

I don't think facebook is the cutting edge technology you think it is. Like I said, clearly we know different people.

Beginning to think I am grateful for that.
