Babies: 0 - 3 Months

from 3rd tri- those that had csections

Did the hospital give you special soap that you had to wash with?

I have terrible skin, and have had to use special stuff for as long as I can remember and i am worried about having to wash with this soap that they are supposedly going to give me.

I didnt for my daughter, but supposedly at this new hospital they do.

Just curious thank you!

  • I didn't have special soap.

Talk to your OB about it.

  • I just assumed that all the toiletries they provided were a courtesy, as opposed to "having" to use them. The first washing I had was a sponge bath the day after.. if I had had any issues using their soap, I would have just had the nurse grab mine out of my bag.

I should have clarified.  It is soap that I am supposed to wash with the day of the csection so that there is less chance of infection.  Which I dont get anyway because they clean your whole area before they start.

  • I was given an antiseptic wash to use twice prior to going in for the c-section. I was told to take a normal shower and use the wash the night before. Then the morning of I was suppose to shower just using the wash. The purpose was to get the germs off the body so you reduce the risk of infection. However, people who have emergency c-sections don't have time to wash themselves with anything, so if you tell them about you're skin, it probably won't be a big deal.

  • I had an emergency c-section, so I didn't prep myself. But, if that were the case, then you wouldn't be using their antiseptic soap anyway? =/ I would ask and let them know what your situations is.

  • I'm not sure if it's typical, but I ended up with five bags of IV antibiotics; I'm sure that pretty much takes care of any "germs" you might encounter.  :)  No special soap though.  I just used my stuff from home.

  • They told me to buy Hibiclens and shower with it before the c-section.  It was like $4 at Target.
