if you have good IF/IVF coverage?

Where do you have it through? (who's your/DH's employer?)

I promise I'm not a stalker, just job hunting...  Thanks! :)

Edit: Please feel free to PM me if you don't feel comfortable posting for everyone to see. :)

Re: if you have good IF/IVF coverage?

  • I have good insurance, *but* a lot of that has to do with living in Maryland and working in a public school.  If I worked in PA, I'd have nothing.  The states that mandate coverage force employers to offer IF coverage, which is what every state should do!!  Big Smile

  • Our insurance is through my job since DH's is crazy expensive.  Neither option has any IF treatment coverage.  My insurance covered up to the point of diagnosis but nothing after that.

I love my job but the owners are very Catholic and I know our coverage will never change.

    Good luck in your search!

I live in a state where it is mandated as well.  I used to have my coverage through DH's employer.  However, the loop-hole here is that if the plans are self-insured (I don't entirely even understand what this means) they are not required to follow the state mandate.  So, the IF coverage I had through DH ended.  Luckily, I was able to move on to my company's insurance plan which is covered.

  • We have good IF coverage through my employer. I pay 50% OOP. Everything is covered, meds, b/w, monitoring u/s, RE visits BUT IVF. If we go through IVF, we would pay 100% OOP (about $12K for everything).

I am very grateful for the coverage we have. I have seen the costs if it was 100% OOP Indifferent

FYI, self-insured means the co. just pays admin fees to the insurance company to administer the plan and get their negotiated network discounts.  The claims are actually paid by a fund set up and funded directly by the employer.  So it's not "real" insurance backed by an ins.co., so no mandate. :(

  • I hope you don't mind me posting, but my employer is out of IL, but self-funded so not all of our insurance plans have IF coverage.

So in 2009 during open enrollment, I didn't consider IF coverage and picked a plan without it.  A month later, I got my Dx.  Given my age, we couldn't wait another year to change plans for coverage and just paid OOP.

But I did change plans for 2011 - just in case this pregnancy didn't work out.  If I go in network (BCBS), after my deductible, I pay 50%.  I also checked to see if that includes DE - which it does except for the Donor Fee.  It also covers meds after the deductible.  My deductible is $250 and my out-of-pocket max is $2,050.  I also checked and my RE is in network.

My employer has a pretty big presence in Chicago.  PM if you want to know who I work for.

This!  My DH's company is based out of MA, but he works in the Dallas office.  We have BCBS of MA and we have been very, very fortunate with our IF coverage.  We have up to 6 IVFs covered, and in our situation, we are extra fortunate because it also covers PGD based on my DH's balanced translocation.  (Of course we do have co-pays and dedectibles but they are minimal compared to the overall cost.)

Good luck in your job search!  I pray for the day when everyone has IF coverage!!!  It is so unfair.

  • DH's company (not in your area though) had an awesome plan that we were about to switch to when they decided not to offer it anymore.  We had one of those so-called "Cadillac" plans and this was a Cadillac + 100% IF coverage (diagnostic, monitoring, and 6 IUI's and IVF's!) with no deductibles and only $20 copays.  Life was going to be great!  Then it got taken away right when we were about to sign up for it.  We're still very lucky to have what we have which is 3 IUI's and 3 IVF's covered at 80% with monitoring also covered at 80%.

  • Don't know if you're interested in banking or finance, but we moved when my husband got a job with Chase.  They have great IF benefits ($20000 max lifetime on IVF/IUI and $10000 max meds lifetime) and we pay a $50 copay.  It's a POS I believe with United Healthcare.  And because of contracted rates with the insurance, that $20000 will get us just about up to 5 cycles.  The meds will be covered for 2.

When my H was looking for a new job and we knew we needed coverage, he started his job search with the top 50 companies for IF/adoption benefits listed in Conceive magazine.  https://www.conceiveonline.com/fifty-best-companies/conceives-50-best-companies-2010/Page-1/  He actually got an interview and job offer with Chase a few months after we had looked at this, and when we looked at it again one day and realized that Chase was on the list, he accepted the job right away =)

  • I have the insurance mandated by Illinois which is great, although not nearly as good now that we have moved on to DE. I am self employed as a real estate agent, but am able to get on a group plan through my real estate office.

I had to switch offices about a year ago, so I learned a lot about the Illinois mandate.  There are so many loopholes. One thing I discovered is that HMOs tend to have much better coverage. For some reason, it must be harder for an HMO to get around the loopholes. For example, at my company, the HMO has fertility coverage and the PPO does not.  Not sure if that helps, but thought I would give you the info in case it comes into play for you.

Don't know if you're interested in banking or finance, but we moved when my husband got a job with Chase.

Thanks hon.  I've been totally working this Conceive list. :)  I'll have to look at Chase, I have a friend who completely changed industries to go work there for the IF bennies to try for #2.  I have a degree in Econ, but no experience in banking or finance...

  • ladies that  have ivf coverage count your blessings. i live in a nonmandate state and work for the state so i get zero nada paid. everything is oop even blood draw. that sucks big time.
  • I don't have IF treatment coverage through my insuarnce or MH's.  However, I learned the other day that one of my friends had her IUIs and IVF cycles complete covered through her husband's insurance (she did 6 or 7 IUIs and 2 fresh IVF cycles but still had more coverage).  He works for the NLRB.  I've hear that it isn't consistent through federal agencies but some, such as the NLRB have IF coverage.  Oh, and we are not in a mandated state.
