XP: How much food does your LO chew at 12m?

I posted this on the 12-24m board too, but have always gotten great responses from the ladies here.

How much of your LO's food was the kind he actually has to chew at 12m? DS will eat puffs, but that's about it.  I keep offering things like tiny pieces of banana and some stage 3 baby foods, but he either spits it out right away or gags.

I was just wondering what others' experiences have been.  I know, I know, all kids develop at their own pace, yada yada, but chalk this up to him being my first LO.  TIA!

  • DD was eating lots of stuff by then and had about 7 teeth, including her front teeth. I just looked on my now-defunct blog, where I chronicled DD's early adventures in food, and in my journal at the time, and by one year, I was regularly feeding DD:

    - baked salmon

    - pasta with veggie sauces on them (our favorites were a sauce made of pureed asparagus & spinach and a beet & garlic sauce),

    - meatballs

    - tortellini and ravioli

    - edamame

    - little pieces of tofu (plain, cold)

    - soba noodles with peanut sauce or sesame & soy sauce

    - fruits like oranges, strawberries, bananas, kiwi, grapes (cut up) and blueberries

    - scrambled eggs (I only scrambled the yolks when I first intro'd them, then slowly starting giving her the whole egg)

    - frittatas/Spanish tortillas

At some point the summer after she turned 1, I started giving her quesadillas (with either veggies or black beans & quinoa) and pieces of lamb cooked in stew.

  • We ate doing BLW so my DS already eats lots of our food. I can hand him a banana and he bites pieces off and chews them as though he has a mouth full of teeth... He only has 2. Instead of giving him tint bits could you just give him a whole piece of something... NOthing too hard, but toast a banana, rice cake w/ hummus... Etc. Maybe he will enjoy eating things in the same way he sees you eat them :) All babies are different so I wouldn't stress if he isn't a huge fan of solids yet. Good luck momma!
