Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Constant Crying

If you've dealt with this, what did your pedi say/do about it?  One of my LOs has gotten to the point where he cries about 90% of the time while he's awake.  If he's not eating, he's usually crying.

My other LO has reflux, so I've seen reflux and I don't think that's the problem.  In fact, the only time he's not crying is during his bottle and right after, which is the opposite of a reflux baby.

Is this colic?  And what do doctors do about colic?  I've tried gas drops and gripe water and neither of those seem to help.

Re: Constant Crying

  • Our pedi says he'll grow out of it, and as we get closer to 3 months it's getting better almost daily.  Paying close attention to his sleep cues has really helped because he peaks at 2 hours of awake time and will fight naps if he gets overtired.  LO has been extremely alert since birth, so getting out of the house helps us too.  He loves to look at people, lights, trees, anything really.

  • It could be colic and there's nothing doctors can do for it.  I'd suggest reading Happiest Baby on the Block which has some alternatives to gas drops etc for colicky babies (my DD didn't have colic and we still use some of the techniques from the book to help her get to sleep when she's overtired and crying and they work like a charm!).

  • My baby is doing the same thing, doctor says it's probably colic. Not much you can do about it, unfortunately. I'm trying Gripe Water, but just started last night so i can't tell you if it's working or not.

They say it only lasts 3 months. I don't know if I'll make it!
