Success after IF

TMI Q #2: poop...?

i've definitely started to become more constipated... i am pooping a LOT less than normal, and it's a huge effort every time :( sorry, i know this is lovely reading material....

anyway, just wondering if you guys have found this gets worse and worse as the weeks pass, or if any of you have taken anything for it, etc.  (i *really* want to avoid taking anything if i can).

thanks so much :)

  • For me it is just starting to really hit, before this week, let's just say things were flowing fast :)
I haven't taken anything yet, but I am trying to bump up my fiber.  Also I am finding that it is best if I go whenever I feel like I need to - waiting seems to make things worse.

  • Eat more fiber and drink more water for 'natural' cures. A little baby food prunes mixed in applesauce will also help  =)

Colace is generally considered safe as well, it just makes things 'softer' but doesn't make you go.  You WILL want that after birth though, trust me.

  • I think this is something that gets worse as the baby(ies) get bigger.  Water, fiber and exercise/movement are the natural ways to get things moving but I take colace since I am on bed rest and not moving enough.  Try not to strain!  You dont want to get those roids!

  • I startedhaving seriously the hardest poops ever (feel like I'm practicing to deliver!) about 25 weeks? I was normal before then but yes the more pg I am the worse it seems to get!

I won't use a toilet unless a plunger is around! Indifferent

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • Fiber, fiber, fiber, and water.  Take a cue from grandma and buy some prunes.  Seriously.  They are actually really yummy, have some iron and are good for you.  Just pop a few each morning and try to avoid eating carbs without fiber.  Knock on wood, I haven't had any problems in that department yet.
  • Just in the past couple weeks this has become a MUCH bigger issue for me.  I've resorted to Metamucil fiber wafers to up my fiber intake.  It is helping, but I still may need something to help soften things up.

None of this is helped by the fact that I'm taking iron supplements too, which makes consitpation worse.  Yeah for me.....  Angry

  • Lovely s/e of pregnancy, eh?  I have found that raisin bran helps to get my system moving.  If things are really slow...I'll eat 2 bowls a day.

And I'm with MayDay, the plunger is my BFF.  Embarrassed

  • I had it bad the first tri - prunes baby, prunes. BUT don't be like Lovemy2boys and eat like 8 of them out of desperation (sorry kerry ;) you only need to eat one or two and then let them do their thing!
  • I only went every 4 days before i was PG so It got really bad. So I eat a bowl fiber one cereal every morning with limited milk. I get the one that has the 57% of daily fiber. I also have tried to have a fruit cup as my mid afternoon snack and I take a colace everyday. When I get "backed up" I throw in a small glass of Prune or Plum juice and that helps get things moving

  • Things were better in the 2nd trimester, but since I hit the 3rd trimester, it has gotten worse.

I used to drink a little bit of prune juice to help me, but since being diagnosed with GD I am eating a couple of prunes.  Not fun, but it helps.

  • I take colace everyday - peri says it's fine.  I only take 50mg.

It seems to help..  I try to time going to the bathroom each day - as I really can't get constipated or push esp. w/ a cerclage.
