Infertility

Beta in..

It is 63!! My progesterone is 230. I have another beta on Monday. Then, if its good, they said they are done with betas, but would do another draw on Friday at 5 weeks if I traveled to their clinic (over an hour each way) for an u/s. If I want to stay local, they wouldn't do anymore betas and my u/s wouldn't be until 6 weeks. Ummmm what to do??

  • First, congratulations!  I wish you a healthy, comfortable, and peaceful pregnancy.

Second, I would make the drive.  My reason for saying this is because I had an ectopic last year and learned the hard way.

I'm not trying to plant seeds, I just want you to know why I believe you should go in on Friday.

  • Yes!! That is fantastic news. I'm so happy for you sweets. Doubling vibes for you!

  • I'd wait until Monday after your next Beta to decide whether to travel or not. I understand what the other pp said about an etopic.  I'll give you a different point of view.

I was supposed to start u/s's at 6 weeks but my doctor had me come in at 5 weeks.  At 5 weeks, the most you will see is a fetal pole and yolk sac and "dot" (the baby).  My doctor saw only the sac and told me it wasn't a viable pregnancy.  I was crushed.  She had me come back at 6 weeks and guess what, everything was fine but it was a long, long week for no reason.  I understand about making sure the baby is in the right place and not etopic but I just want you to know another side of it.  Unless you see it all on the u/s, you will drive yourself nuts over it - when there is no reason to freak.  If you wait until 6 weeks, you'll be able to see it all...and perhaps even the flicker of a heartbeat.  Even though my daughter turned out fine, I will never forget my doctor dragging me in at 5 weeks and freaking me out when she didn't see what she hoped to see.

I'd wait until Monday after your next Beta to decide whether to travel or not. I understand what the other pp said about an etopic.  I'll give you a different point of view.

Hi Lyse.  Congrats again! whatever you decide, I know the baby will be great! I just want to reiterate what JillAly said.  You really can't see much at 5 weeks. Not even a heartbeat.  When I was pregnant, my RE wouldn't even do an u/s until 7 weeks.  He said any earlier there is really too soon.  Yes, some people see a flicker of a hb at 6 weeks and some don't, but it doesn't mean anything is wrong.  He said at 7 weeks, they should definitely see a hb.  He told me he doesn't do it sooner because it causes unneeded stress and found people just worry unnecessarily.

I'm only telling you this in case you decide to go. Believe me, I probably would, considering I basically begged my RE to do an u/s sooner and he wouldn't. I completely understand wanting to see your LO asap.  YEAH!!!!
