my kid only eats a few bites, then wants down. However once he is down he will take food piece by piece from me, or eat it off the edge of the table.
worth the fight or no? I have not minded b/c to me him eating is most important. However, I also don't want to get in a bad habit and just don't know.
thanks!
Re: anyone else's kid not eat in highchair?
I don't think we are too far away from this, right now he says "up" and bangs on his high chair until we put him in and give him his meal/snack but after a few bites he wants to get down. The only difference is that he doesn't really want to eat once he's down, as far as actual food, but he would eat graham crackers in his hands all day long.
I would like to keep him in the high chair as long as we can because that's where he eats at DC and I don't want to mess her up.
DD will try to refuse the high chair esp when she is tired and really hungry. She'd rather sit on my lap and eat...occasionally I have let her do it but I try to stick to a consistent expectation that she eat her meals in the highchair. I tell her, "if you want to eat, you have to sit in your high chair." However, I do let her eat snacks in the living room. I put them in a bowl (usually one that suctions to the coffee table) and give her another bowl to play with.
Have you tried a booster seat? Your LO might enjoy that more and feel more like a "grown up".
hmm, he is in the booster seat, but i use the tray with it. Maybe I will give it a go eating off the table. We have not mastered plates yet (sometimes it goes well, others it gets dumped).
thanks!

My LO is starting to stand up in the high chair. I buckle him in but he still tries to get out. I've found that if I am 100% focused on him/feeding him, he is better with sitting.
I think it is important to keep him in the high chair. I have a friend who is an occupational therapist who works with infants/children with problems and she is always stressing to me how important for development it is that he is seated properly when eating with his feet resting on something.
