Its a blood test that basically checks for the same thing as a NT scan, I was never offered a NT scan, I was offered the quad screening - its optional and up to you whether or not you want to do it.
I think a lot of people get both the quad screening and NT scan. For me it was like genetic markers for CF carrier status and stuff like that. It's NOT necessary and getting it will not help your baby in any way. It's just a warning for you if something might be wrong.
I just got mine today. It came out to like 6 vials of blood, and now my arm aches like mad. But I wanted the extra warning so I could prepare myself for any problems.
