Where is your carseat?

So DH installed our carseat a few days ago and he put it behind the passenger seat. Which is fine, I just always pictured it in the middle. But now that it is behind the passenger seat that seams to be the best place for it. Is there anything anywhere that says where the best place to put it is? Where did you put yours? TIA =D

Re: Where is your carseat?

  • We put ours in the middle in my car (it wouldn't fit on the sides anyways because I have a smaller car, and I had heard the middle was best), and DH has the base on the passenger side.

I was never sure, either, where to put it or where it is supposedly best to install.

  • We have a pick up truck, so he gets the passenger seat. There's no passenger airbag, though.
  • Ours is in the middle of both cars. I was always told the middle was the safest place.

  • DD#1 is behind the driver's seat and LO is behind the passenger seat. It makes it easier for me to see her and try to calm her while driving if needed. Your owner's manuel might be able to recommend where to place your carseat for your vehicle.  :)

  • Middle seat in the back.  We might have to move it to the passenger side, though if ever our trunk is jam-packed and we can't use the split-fold rear seat feature.

  • Ours is in the middle because when we got it inspected, they told us that was the best place for it (less chance of impact if the car got hit on the side).

  • We had ours on the passenger side when it was only one kid- it's too hard on my back to get it into the middle! Now with 2 kids, I can't use the middle anyways!

  • In DH's car, it's behind the passenger seat.  It was originally in the middle but we had to move it when we had it inspected.  Something about the carseat handle clearning the front center console.

In my car, it's in the middle.  However, I'm short and thinking that it's gonna be too difficult on my back to lift her in/out of the middle.  I may end up moving it to the passenger side.

  • I put mine behind the passenger seat, because I had to.  My car's manual says you can't put it in the middle if you use the latch system.  I would check your manual and see what it says!  When installing, the latch system seemed to keep the base tighter to the seat than using the seat belts.  I also had it checked out by a car seat technician at the fire department.  She gave me a lot of good info.

  • My car seat is sitting by the front door waiting for DH to install it.

  • We put ours in the back on the passenger side in both vehicles. Our rear seats both have just enough of a hump to make the base unstable.

  • I have an SUV with three rows of seating.  We put the carseat in the middle seat of the middle row, using the LATCH system.  I know all cars are different though, so you should check your car's manual.  Some don't let you use LATCH in the middle.

ETA: I was told middle seat was best, if possible, since it minimizes impact if there is a crash on either side.

  • Ours is in the middle. I wanted to put it behind the driver's door because it just seemed it would be easiest to put the baby in and then hop right on up to the front seat, especially in the cold! But, our car's defective I guess and even though it's supposed to have three child restraint anchors, it only has two so we had no choice but to put it in the middle. /sigh/ No big deal, besides I hear it's safer, though I have yet to see a convincing argument for it. Best not take chances, though.

  • Ours in in the middle of our 2nd row. Its hard to get out because I have to climb up into the seat to get her out but it is the safest place for her. I would call your fire deparment and have it inspected or ask for their suggestions.

  • We've also heard middle is safest, but for now it is behind the passenger seat. We don't have LATCH available in the middle, and I'm worried about being able to get the baby in and out easily... that is - IF he ever decides to show up.

(Yeah, yeah, I'm only 1 day late so far, but I'm bummed to not have a baby yet!)

  • Passenger side due to no latch system in the middle and I have a fold down middle seat and my manuel says it is not safe in my car in the middle.
