How do you guys keep your LOs out of the trashcans? DS's new thing is pulling things out of there to play with, and then putting other things in (which aren't trash, like sippy cups, clean clothes, etc). Any ideas? The redirection and "no"s dont' seem to help ![]()

Re: how to keep DS out of garbage cans???
Our trash is in our pantry closet. The handles are up too high for her to reach.
That, and even if she did get into the pantry, it's one of those stainless steel trash cans where you have to step on the foot pedal to open the lid.
Maybe try a garbage that has a cover like ours?
We have a garbage can with the step lid too, and he just lifts the lid and takes stuff out! I can't wait to see what others have to say...I'm curious too.
Is yours stainless steel? Or plastic? I can see an LO being able to lift a plastic one, but the one I have I can't even open without stepping on the pedal. It's heavy, and it seals itself pretty tight.
Omg.. I have this problem- except that he puts things in it!
His bink, my shoes, his toys, etc etc. I always have to check it before I throw the bag out to make sure nothing is in there! It's stainless steel and has a lid.. I'm thinkin' we're gonna need to put it out of his reach but I have no idea where!

Yep, it's a stainless steel one, the lid kind of sucks to the bag when it's shut, so I have no idea how he can keep getting it open. Maybe I birthed the Hulk or something.
We put them out of his reach. Except the kitchen trash can, which is a big steel can and he can't get into it by himself. When he picked up a bit of paper or something else that was trash, I held a trashcan open for him to put it in. If he tried to take it back out, I told him, "Once it's in the trash, it's bye-bye." And re-directed.
Now, he knows what the trash can is for, and we put them all back out. He ignores them unless he has something to throw away (he likes to "blow" his nose on a tissue and then throw it away).
