1 year anniversary - Did you eat the cake??

So, my 1 year anniversary is on Sunday...yay! Well, during the really bad storms we had here on the East Coast in March, we lost power for 4 days, which resulted in us losing most of our food, including our top tier of wedding cake. I was sort of happy about this, giving me a good reason to NOT eat a piece on our anniversary. That just sounds gross and nasty, and I'm sure if we still did have the cake, I wouldn't have had any regardless.

Did you have a bite of your wedding cake on your 1 year anniversary?

Re: 1 year anniversary - Did you eat the cake??

  • Nope, my parents dog got into it the day after the wedding. Oops. Happy almost anniversary!

  • Yep! My gran wrapped it up a ton AND had it in Tupperware & it tasted just as sweet as it did on our wedding day :)

  • The Inn we had our reception at had their own bakery and made our wedding cake.  As an anniversary gift they gave us a free night stay and a GC for dinner at the restaurant.  They also recreated the top tier of our cake. Normally, they freeze them and give it the night of the dinner.  However, during the year they had an issue with their freezer and it was tossed.  So, we lucked out and had a new delicious cake...

  • No - we had a huge food fight with it.

  • Yes, we did eat our cake on our first anniversary, and it was terrible! It was so dry it tasted like sand. DH and I both ate 1 bite and that was it.

  • Happy Anniversary!

We moved via roadtrip right after we got married so we didn't save it.  We ate it ourselves a couple days after the wedding (when we could sit down and enjoy it!)

  • MIL wrapped it, put it in tupperware, then wrapped the tupperware before deep freezing it for us.  We both had SEVERAL slices off of the top tier once it was thawed.  It was delicious.

  • Yep - not as good as day of, but better than most store bought cake I've had (we had a back up in case it was gross).

    Happy 1 year this weekend!!!

  • No, becuase we were married in Vegas and didn't bring it back on the plane.  However, I did have a bakery here recreate it and we ate that.

  • Nope. It just didn't even sound good. We cut and served the entire cake. We drank a toast from our champagne flutes on our anniversary. I was fine with that.

  • thanks ladies! sorry I ran off, C needed a baba! LoL
  • We won't get to, we got married on a cruise so they wouldn't let us take it off of the ship. I couldn't even keep my bouquet either. Which I don't really care because I hate hoarding stuff.

  • I am a decorator at a cake shop. We offer a free 6inch cake on the 1 year anniversary if someone ordered a cake from us. and we decorate it to look like the top tear of the original wedding cake.

I think its gross to eat a cake that has been frozen for a year and smushed by frozen chicken and veggies! Ick!. I would contact the bakery you got your cake from and see if they offer a free cake on your anniversary. It doesn't hurt to ask. Smile

  • We ate ours and it wasn't very good...he smashed it in my face and we had a food fight with it! I didn't let him do that at the wedding so on our anniversary he went for it! LOL

  • We did have a couple bites. It actually wasn't that bad. The only issue we had was that we didn't store it right initially. Our SIL/BIL had it in their freezer in the original box and it was a little freezer burned on the outside. We took a few bites from the inside and threw the rest away.
  • We ate the rest of ours on our first night of the honeymoon.  It was too good to wait!  Plus the idea of a year old cake just didn't appeal to us.  lol

  • Our first anniversary is in March, the cake is currently in MIL's freezer properly wrapped, so we'll atleast take a bite. I expect it to taste just as good as our wedding day.

On my mom's first wedding anniversary to my step-dad we ate her cake (from the same bakery mine is from) and it was just as good!

  • Yes!  My parents took it home after the wedding and kept it in their big freezer.  They gave it back at our one year and it was pretty good, but we only had one bite because it kind of freaked us out that it was a year old.  Happy Anniversary!
  • I was 9 months pregnant on our 1 yr anniversary. I sure as heck had me some cake!

  • We did - it was delicious!! In fact, we each had a few pieces, but there was so much left, we refroze it and took it out when we had a little gathering of friends to meet our LO, and they finished it!

No we kept it for a few days after the Wedding not in the freezer cause we are living in a apartment and it won't fit in the freezer so we ate some of it after the Wedding, but then had to throw it out when it got bad

  • I refused to save it for the following year. That just sounded gross to me. I do wish I had gotten more of my wedding cake though - especially the tier that was carrot cake... mmmmm.... I think I only had a half piece of it at the reception when DH and I fed it to each other.

  • We did and it was delicious.  Much much better than we had expected.
