By that, I mean, how many hours is your LO sleeping before waking up? What time to you put him/her down and what time does he/she wake up? Just curious!

6-7 hours. (The books seem to indicate this is STTN too.) I do not expect my child to sleep from 8 pm to 7 am. But if I can put her down at 8, feed her at midnight, and wake up with her at 6 or 7 -- I'll be a happy camper.
STTN is technically 5 hours. However, my definition of STTN is more like 8-10 hours and my twins aren't anywhere close to that yet bedtime for them is around 800pm and they usually sleep 4-5 hours before wanting to be fed. After that they're usually up every 3-4 hours before getting up for the day around 6-700am.

To me sleeping through the night means 4 hours of uninterupted sleep. I can survive on 4 hours .He has no exact time to go to sleep , we are on his scheduale .We do what he wants and what he needs to get through the night , he has slept in his crib maybe 4 times ,wherever he wants to sleep is fine with us lol ! We are always up by 4 no matter what time we go to sleep or how many hours we get .
My definition (not that of the books) is if I put her down at 8 and she wakes up at 5, she's slept through the night. We've gotten it a couple of times. She's also slept from 8-4 a few times, which I'll happily take. I think of STTN in terms of what time she wakes up, not necessarily the number of hours of sleep I've gotten.

This exactly.

What I have read indicates that STTN is 5 hours, but to me, that's not even close because I need more than that. I will say she's STTN when she goes down at a reasonable hour (say, midnight....we are night owls here) and sleeps until at least 7am.
I am pretty satisfied with her schedule now, though, where she usually goes down at eleven, is up sometime between 3 and 5, then back to bed until 7 or 8. She usually goes back down for a 2-hour nap after that too, but I stay up and start my day.
I guess technically now I should be SecondBabyMomma
The books all say 5 hours...but I wont say DD STTN until she sleep through my night!! Like 10-6 or 7 would great. I don't see that happening for a long time...especially if she takes after her brother...so far she is sleeping a little better though than he did waahoo!
Re: Lurking from March 2011..what does STTN mean to you?
He was going down at 9:40 and waking at 4:30. I considered that STTN.
Now...who knows when he will go down or how long he stays asleep.
This exactly.

I didn't consider Nathan STTN until just now when he goes down at 10pm and wakes up about 6 or 7.
