3rd Trimester

How many of you have received the "Are you having twins?" line?

I made it to 30 weeks before getting this question, but I knew it was coming none the less. I'm only measuring a week ahead ..I dont look that huge in my opinion. Seriously though, why would you ever even ask that? People just amaze me at times.

We were at Subway at the time. The "sandwich maker" was the one with the lovely question. DH's comment was "If it's any cancellation to you hunny, she looks like a meth addict" LOL

Re: How many of you have received the "Are you having twins?" line?

  • I got this at 23 weeks from our security guard at work....funny thing was, most people said they couldn't even tell I was pregnant at that point!  I think sometimes people just like to say that because they don't know what else to say or how big people should be at a certain time...I know before I got pregnant I had no clue!

Where in Arkansas are you from?  My dad's family is from there, so I spent a lot of time down in the Hot Springs area growing up, and now my aunt lives in Springdale/Fayetteville are....It's so beautiful there!

  • I have been asked that. And I have also been told that my belly looks too small. I think people just want to say one or the other!

  • I haven't been asked about twins. But someone did ask me my due date. Then proceeded to say this winner

"Ummm, are you sure you're going to make it until January? You look like you're going to pop."

    WTH. Women don't pop.

  • Haha..when I was preg with Noah I had one lady say are you sure your not having twins..I said I am sure just had an u/s.. They said well you know they might have missed one..WTH LOL

  • I've gotten a few times this pregnancy.  I just laugh it off and say, "I just grow big babies."  I'm measuring right on track :)

  • I got that once. I think people just don't realize how big a belly carrying a new person can get.

I'm from Fayetteville, but I live in Bentonville now since I call on Walmart Headquarters. Hot Springs is a really nice area. You just gave me an idea.. maybe we should do a mini baby moon in hot springs and go to a spa. Party!!! I'm LOVIN that idea right now!

  • I got this question last Saturday night at DH's family Christmas party. DH's Uncle was the one that asked me, and I said "I only have one in here, how many do you have in yours?"

Got a chuckle out of him but I did feel bad giving him a hard time.

  • I got asked this throughout my entire pregnancy.  Even repeatedly from some of the same people.  .
2nd ectopic resulted in loss of tube. HSG revealed remaining tube is "severely torqued".
    IVF #1: ER 03/29/10; ET 04/01/10: transferred 2 embies; Beta #1 (9dp3dt)- 45; Beta #2 (11dp3dt)- 91= BFP
    FET#1: ET 04/18/12: transferred 4 embies; Beta #1: >2 = BFN
    IVF #2: ER 06/20/12; ET 6/25/12: transferred 2 embies; Beta #1 on 7/5/12= BFN
    8/16: hysteroscopy for polyp removal
11/11: hysteroscopy #2 for yet another polyp removal
    FET#2: ET 12/15/12: transferred 3 embies; Beta #1 (9dp5dt): 12/24/12: 426; Beta #2 (11dp5dt): 845= BFP
u/s 1/9= triplets!; miscarried all three on 1/10/13...

  • I get the twin question ALL THE TIME, along with "you're about to pop!" and "are you SURE you're going to make it to your induction date?!?!"  I'm ready to hit people when they ask.  I've also gotten "maybe they missed one" when I say it's not twins... um, in 13 u/s, done by 6 different docs, I'm pretty sure someone would have seen a 2nd baby in there.  Oh, and I'm only measuring a week ahead. GRRRRR.

  • I get it weekly now. *sigh*
  • Interestingly enough... I have NOT gotten this question yet, and I AM having twins?!

But I am totally over the, "Are your boy/girl twins identical?"

I even got this one today from a lady who said she is a twin?  Don't you think she would understand the terminology?

  • Yeah, along with the "Are you SURE you're not due until February?!"

  • Yeah, along with the "Are you SURE you're not due until February?!"

People don't think. I started this pregnancy with twins, and lost one at 9 weeks. Not many people knew. Next time I hear the twins line I should respond "Well, I did, but Baby B died at 9 weeks. Thanks for asking!"

Hopefully it would make them uncomfortable enough that they'd learn not to ask such a thing again. It's kind of a stinging reminder every time I hear the twins question, and I could do without hearing it again.

  • I have for awhile now. I'm short waisted, and stick out a lot, and stick out early. My uterus was already up to my rib cage at 29 weeks, so I know that I look big. But, it gets really annoying, and it is usually followed by something like "Do you think you will make it?" or "You aren't due until February????" Basically the same comments that I got during my first pregnancy. Occasionally, a nice person will tell me that I look tiny and great, and even though I don't think I do- it makes me smile- why can't all people just say nice things!! So over it all!

  • One of my coworkers asked me how the twins were, and I grabbed my boobs and said, "They're fine, thanks for asking."  Completely shut him up.

  • I've gotten asked "are you sure there's just one"...since oh about the time we announced we were pregnant.   But to be fair, my sister did just have triplets (IUI, which not many people outside of the family know), so everyone just "assumes" I will be having multiples as well.  People are idiots.
