I had my second US yesterday and there is no heartbeat. The baby made it to 9 weeks and 5 days (I should have been 10 weeks and 5 days). So sometime last week it looks like the pregnancy ended. I'm super bummed, frustrated and trying my hardest not to be depressed about it. This was try number 5. My doctor has no explanation for why I can't seem to hold a pregnancy (we were trying progesterone this time). He's done all the tests to include a hysteroscopy, checking my blood for clotting disorders, etc. He's going to send me out to Duke hospital now to see a specialist because as he put it "There is obviously something going on, I just can't seem to figure out what it is..." *sigh* I was so excited that I had heard the heartbeat a few weeks ago and thought my chances of miscarriage were so slim, and yet here I am. As he said, 5% chance of miscarriage after you hear the hearbeat... so I guess i get to be one of the luck 5 out of 100 women...
So now I get to make the choice of DNC or letting the miscarriage happen normally. I'm leaning towards the DNC because I'm not sure how I feel about carrying this around with me until my body decides to get it out... especially since my luck would make it so that it happens on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (I actually already had a miscarriage on Mother's day)... So I think I'm going to opt for the DNC.
I'm so sad that I won't be carrying on the journey with you women. You're all so fabulous and I wish nothing but the best for all of you. Thanks for the laughs, support, advice, and kindness you have shown me these past few weeks.

Oh, no. I am SO sorry.
This is going to sound really random, but have they checked for a gene mutation called MTHFR? Supposedly, it's really rare, but it turns out that TWO of my girlfriends have it, and they both had several late miscarriages, just like you (each, incidentally, now has two healthy children now that the MTHFR was identified and managed throughout their pregnancies!). I'm sure the folks at Duke will think about this, but I just feel like I would be remiss not to mention it.
Good luck - you will have a very lucky and loved baby someday.
((hugs))
I am so so sorry. Five losses is more than anyone should have to bear. I will keep you in my thoughts.
Not sure if the specialist you are going to is a reproductive immunologist or not but I know a few ladies that are seeing one because of recurrent loss. Just a suggestion. Good luck to you.

I haven't heard of that actually - Honestly I'm not sure how I feel about my doctor at this point.. I mean they took my blood levels when I first went in and then never took them after that. (wouldn't you think you'd be monitoring me throughout considering my history?) And I had to tell them yesterday that they hadn't done any labs on me, so they went ahead and did them (I should have kept my mouth shut because I had to have six vials of blood taken for no reason now)... This is a really reputable and well recommended doctor's office but I'm not sure that I was getting the care that I deserve. Sure they did the historoscopy to make sure nothing was wrong inside and checked me for blood clotting and that RH factor whoosie whatsit, but I was okay for everything, they put me on progesterone because "maybe that's it" but they never tested progesterone levels (if that is even something that can be done). I'm kind of happy they're sending me out to duke because I feel like this guy threw his hands up with me long before this point... He's very nice and caring, but I just don't know... or maybe I'm just looking for someone to blame. But anyway, the point is, I will DEFINITELY ask about this and look into it more! Thank you!!!!
I am so very sorry for your loss and the decision you're having to make. My thoughts are with you.
I hope you get answers soon.

Your post really makes me mad. I can't believe that your doctor didn't do more for you. I have been through one m/c and it tore me apart. To have gone through 5 without the proper care makes me furious. (Not at you, at your doctor).
I am glad you are being referred to Duke who will undoubtably give you the answers you need to carry on. There's a women on PGAL who has had 5 m/c and is now carrying a healthy baby and I think she's at 18 wks.
You will have answers soon and there's hope for you to have your own baby in your arms. Until then, take the time you need to grieve and heal. You are in my thoughts.
I am so, so sorry.
Best wishes to you and your family.
