Haven't heard of silent reflux, but for reflux my pedi said to watch for attitude after spitting up (if LO seems fussy or in pain during/after spitting up), if she seems more comfortable in general when upright, if fussiness or discomfort seems associated with feeding, etc. LO turned out not to have reflux and just to be gassy, but slightly elevating one end of her crib helped. My pedi said that makes a difference for babies with reflux too.
Silent reflux has pretty much the same symptoms as AR except the baby doesn't spit up. My LO would cough and gag a lot. I could hear when she burped how wet it was in the back of her throat; she just swallowed it instead of spitting it up.
Other than that, the symptoms are screaming/arching back when reclined. not wanting to eat, not tolerating stomach time.
My 10 week old son has silent reflux, and it's been horrible. He doesn't spit up. However, he arches, screams, claws, shrieks during feedings. It's so sad. We have been to the pedi many times, and finally to a pedi GI specialist. We are on our third med (Prevacid). We have seen some improvement. Def speak to your pedi if you think your child has reflux. Personally, I feel like the silent reflux is more painful for the child. They acid comes up and then just goes back down. So it "burns" them twice. I hate reflux!
My LO has become extremely fussy the past week. We have been using gas drops, which seemed to help at first. Now he is almost inconsolable when he is awake. He does spit up, but not often. He looks like he is chewing something and then will start screaming, which is why I was thinking it could be silent reflux. I have his 1 month check up Friday so hopefully we can figure it all out.
