Wow - people sure do get worked up about names and the spellings of them. Personally, I love the name Elliot for a boy, but not for a girl. I have an alternate spelling for my name - Sarrah with 2 "r's", which causes some confusion, but not much. It's never been a hassle for me. The boy name for a girl is what would throw me off... not necessarily the spelling of it.
I do agree that names like Madysin and Aleksandria come off as "teen mom" names, but I don't think Elliette is anywhere near that bad.
The more I think about it the more I feel like it's a twist on the name than an actual re-spelling. It almost sounds french to me, and there are a lot of names "ette" at the end, so it's not like I'm just switching out letters and numbers.
Maybe I'm just trying to justify it...Obviously I have some time to think about it. And anyone who knows me knows that I'm pretty well educated, but I am a creative professional in the advertising industry so maybe that's where it stems from.

I'm sorry, I am really just being honest.
I think it's equally as bad as the two examples you just gave.
I'm not a fan of Elliot as a girl's name as it is, and changing the spelling is silly, IMO. Elliot IS a boy's name. Trying to "girly it up" with a spelling like that just makes it look like you don't know how to spell.
I have never been a fan or alternative spellings, but if you like it, go for it. Elliott is another way to spell it traditionally and that looks slightly more feminine than Eliot or Elliot. I say go with what your heart says. We have chosen a very uncommon name, but it is traditional Gaelic and we are spelling it traditionally.
I feel like maybe you could have kicked a puppy instead of making up that name...
Elliot is a boys name. Adding ette does not change that.
LMAO!!
really though, Elliot is a boy's name. Awful for a girl!
btw my mom has lived her life with a boy's name, and it causes more problems than it's worth even if you like it. Maybe you should think about what your daughter will have to deal with.
Speaking as someone who has a unique spelling for a common name, I ask you not to do this. I have to constantly correct people on the spelling and the pronunciation of my name, constantly. I have had important papers and announcements messed up because of this and as a child I could never have personalized items because my name was always wrong. I have even thought about having my name legally changed because I just hate it. I swore my kids will have the most common spelling for their names because I don't want them to have to constantly correct people like I do. Yes I know everyone has to correct others at times, but for me it is constant.
I was talking to my mom about this a few years ago and she said if she could go back in time she would have put her foot down with my dad and given me the common spelling.
From someone who has an annoying made up name - I have to always spell my name out and I STILL get my name mispronounced even by those who are more of an acquaintance. I'm a fan of NORMAL spelled names.
I like Elliot for a girl I think it's cute. However I have very common first name that my parents decided to use the "fun" spelling for. I am forver correcting things. Everyone, I mean EVERYONE spells it wrong. I never had fun pens, cups, key chains with my name on them. I hate it.
I love the name Elliot for a girl, and always have. It bothers me when people freak out about boy names for girls. I grew up with a very difficult name, and while it has hard to deal with at the time, I'm not scarred for life or anything over it. I actually appreciate it being unique, now.
As far as Elliette goes, I think if your intention is to pronounce it Ellie-ette instead of Ellie-it, then it's beautiful. If you want Elliot, go with Elliot. If you want Elliette, go with that. I think they are two completely different names.
We are naming our little girl a French name, so I am biased and really love your alternate spelling because it makes it sound French. I would, however spell it Eliette with one i and two t's, so there is more emphasis on the "ette." An alternative spelling to that is Elyette.

Off topic, just wanted to say how much I LOVE the name Aoife. I fought for it for our LO, but my husband wouldn't bite.

Yuck. It's awful. She will have to spell her name to everyone for the rest of her life.
I have a name with a unique spelling and have to spell my name to everyone all the time. I even make a joke to people that I'm surprised they didn't already know how to spell it but for me it's not a big deal. However, something about that spelling grinds my gears but it's your child so name her and spell it however you want.

I have a friend named Aliette, and I have always loved her name. Her parents are french. I feel like Elliette is very similar, so I like it! I don't think it's trashy or low-class at all. But, I would pronounce it differently than Elliot. If you love it, I say go for it and don't listen to these internet strangers.

I hate when great names get bastardized spellings, so good on you for sticking with it. I love Siobhan, hate Shivonne, and if I ever see Seersha again it will be too soon (but I love Saoirse).
Also, to who said "don't listen to what these internet strangers say"...why ask anyone then? Really?
I also don't think anyone is having an issue with her naming a girl a boy name. That is a discussion for a different day and a different board (the baby names board has this one often), it is the spelling she asked about, and it is not good.
Re: What do you think of my alternative spelling?
this is ridiculous. blahhh!!
Ouch.

At least you're spelling it correctly.

I prefer Elliot/Elliott. Sorry.

I love it too.
