When to move up to size 1 diapers?

DD was 7 lbs 13 oz on 11/17 so she is 8 lbs now at least. At what weight did everyone move up to size 1 diapers? I have no idea when to change.

Re: When to move up to size 1 diapers?

  • We changed when DD was about 9lbs, but more for the reason that she was blowing out of the NB diapers too often.

  • LO is about 9 pounds right now, so he could really wear either.  We just ran out of NB diapers, so we have moved on to size 1 because we ran out :)

  • I don't remember when it was, but we just switched when it looked like they were too tight and she was blowing out of the NB.

  • I think DD was around 8 pounds, we switched when we ran out of a box of newborns.

  • My LO is 10lbs+ and he's still in NB dipes! The leg openings in size 1's are still too big. He's a tall, lean baby!

  • we go up a size when sh starts having frequent blow outs and they start getting hard to close shes currently in size 2 at about 12 or 13 lbs we find out exactly on wed.
  • At nine pounds he started blowing out the newborns and we made the switch.
  • We were getting too near blow-outs and the leg holes are too tight on the NB ones. We've been using the 1's for about a week now. She was 8lbs at birth but even at 9lbs was still using the NBs. I think she's getting near 10lbs now.

  • My kids were 8# 6oz and 8# 3oz and neither have ever worn a NB diaper.  I work in NICU and we only have preemie extra smalls (the size of a maxi pad), preemies, and size 1.  We end up switching babies to size 1 around 5-6lbs and just roll the top front down if it goes too high.  IMO NB size are unnecessary :).

DS was born into size 1 diapers.  We had to give away all our newborn diapers.

This.  (Born at 8 1/2 pounds.)  We just moved to size 2 diapers at 12 lbs.

  • We moved to size 1 when DD was having a bad chaffing/ diaper rash with the NB brand we were using and the only other brand we had on hand was the size 1, so we just stuck with it.  She was probably about 9 lbs when we made the switch and she was about 2 1/2 weeks.

  • DS was 6lb 7oz when he was born and was in NB for at least 2-3 weeks, size 1 were way too big on him.
