Cloth Diapering

Question about cloth wipes

So, I'm jumping head first into the world of CDs, and I am realizing that cloth wipes are a natural match since I want to shove the wipe inside the diaper every time!  Luckily, I have 2 dozen wipes coming that I got as a freebie with a purchase today.  My question is...what do you use to wet them?  Do you buy a spray or make your own?  What about when you are out and about, do you just use disposable wipes?

Re: Question about cloth wipes

  • I haven't started using my cloth wipes yet, I have lots of disposable ones from showers still, but I plan on using warm water. When I was younger my mom would make wipes with paper towel and some kind of solution stuff, but we also used warm water when we ran out.

  • I just use water. I store them dry in my changing area and wet them down as I use them. While out, I also just wet them down with water I carry in a small bottle. Obviously, if you're near a sink that works too.

  • I just started a new method today and love it.

I store my wipes dry in a basket on the changing table then wet them as needed with a solution in an old hair color applicator bottle.  My solution is water with a few drops of baby oil, baby wash and tea tree oil.

This!! Except I use olive oil instead of baby oil.

I'm pretty similar to this.  I use a small spray bottle (I have a large jar for refills and I refill the jar once a week or so).  My solution is homemade and is just water, mineral oil (I hate the smell of baby oil), lavender, and tea tree oil.

When I go out, I wet 5 or 6 wipes (or more if I'll be gone all day), and put them in a travel wipe case.  I recently left my wipe case somewhere, so I've had to use a ziplock bag the last few days.  I'll pick up a new travel case next time I'm at the store.

For wipes, I mainly use the cheapy wash cloths from Target, but I'm starting to make my own out of flannel and terry cloth.

  • I use Circo washcloths from Target and Gerber washcloths from Walmart. I wet about 5 wipes at a time and store them in a travel wipes container. I just put that on my changing table, use them throughout the day, and add more as needed....when I am on the go, I just take that along with me in the diaper bag. I use a solution of water with a few drops of baby oil and baby wash....I put it in the squirt bottle I got when I was in the hospital. It is so much easier than using disposable wipes because you can just throw them in the wetbag with the CD!  :)
