Recommend your baby carrier/wrap

Hi ladies, I am due in just a few weeks and am looking to get a baby carrier before he gets here. We originally going to get an Ergo but not I'm thinking I should start with a wrap. Can you guys recommend a good user friendly wrap for a new mom? Some stats in case that might help in your suggestions: we live in South Florida, I am only 5'1 and my husband is 6'2. I want something that I can use from day 1. I've also heard some are good for breastfeeding momma's which I am hoping to do so if you could recommend one that will work for that as well that would be great. TIA!

Re: Recommend your baby carrier/wrap

  • Since you plan on using an Ergo later on, a stretchy wrap would be a great way to go.  Since you are in Florida, the moby wrap will more than likely be to warm, so I'd recommend a Bali Baby Stretch wrap.  It's more money than a moby, but definitely worth it.

  • I agree that a Moby will be too warm.  Have you considered a Ringsling?

  • I started out with a Sleepy Wrap and a Moby and used them through out the summer months with DS.  I would reccommend either (I tended to prefer the Sleepy Wrap though).  They are warmer than a woven, but I just kept DS in his diaper or a onsie when wearing him and it wasn't bad...I think that if you use one of these through the winter months you'll be fine and he'll be big enough for the Ergo before it gets too hot again in FL.

You're going to love wearing you LO :)  And I bet your DH will love it too!

  • I second the Bali Baby!  They are beautiful, stretchy, and lightweight.  I think that is the perfect option for a newborn in FL.
  • A third vote for the Bali Baby. (Get the strechy, not the breeze!)

I learned to BW BF in this one and it was my go to at the beach this summer. It is very moby-like but thinner and softer.

You can save yourself some money by buying used on the babywearer FSOT forum. Then you can turn around and sell it when you are finished to fund an Ergo. I bought mine used for about $70 and was able to sell for $65 when I wanted to try something new!

  • I am just throwing another option into the mix. :) I recently got a cotton gauze wrap from Babyette on Etsy and I love it. It is very supportive and not warm at all (I live in AZ so this is a GOOD thing). I think it would be amazing with a newborn and I am still using it with DD.
