2nd Trimester

How often do you eat peanut butter?

I avoided pb during my last pregnancy. Although we don't have a family history of food allergies, my OB agreed that there just isn't enough research stating clearly when kids should be introduced to pb. This pregnancy I eat it at least 3 times a week, and would like to daily. I cant get enough.

So I know that there isnt clear research that shows avoiding pb during pregnancy will help protect your LO from an allergy, but I am interested to hear if others are avoiding or craving it!

  • Everyday. Love it!!

  • I never wanted it with DD (unless it was in Reeses Cup form) but the last few weeks I've been having it for breakfast every morning. I don't worry about it in the slightest- we don't have a family history of allergies and I honestly feel like the fear-mongering about allergies is worse than the allergies themselves.

  • I eat it every.single.day. Multiple times. :)

  • I ate it daily with my last pregnancy.  I had GD and that was my protein for breakfast (and milk) and with some of my snacks.

I'd be doing the same this time but it gives me killer heartburn now.  =(

  • Almost every day - this pregnancy and my first.  We also introduced pb to my DS before he was 1 and had no adverse reaction.  His favorite snack is pb on ritz crackers.

  • I thought it was funny that you posted this because I'm sitting at work eating an apple with peanut butter :)  I'm not avoiding it at all, but I also don't eat it everyday.

  • First trimester I had it about 5 times a week, because I was craving it. Now, it varies. My doctor didn't say there was any reason for concern. March of dimes has some comments on the safety during pregnancy https://www.marchofdimes.com/pregnancy/nutrition_peanut.html

  • I eat peanut butter almost everyday. I always have during my pregnancies - my OB has never told me it's unsafe re: allergies.

  • With my first, I ate half a PB sandwich almost every single day. It used to make him kick like crazy. This time around, I don't think I"ve eaten more than once or twice. It's just not appealing to me.

  • Last pregnancy I ate it daily. My reasoning was that I was building protection for the baby in-utero.  My DS doesn't have a nut allergy but neither does anyone in my family.

  • I also eat it EVERYDAY... with honey on whole wheat bread! YUM! It has become my favorite breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert! There are plenty of worse things out there you could eat and as a matter of fact I believe it's recommended as a source of good fat and some protein for pregnant women.

  • I can't stand it this pregnancy, but had it A LOT with DD. She's got a milk and egg allergy but not a peanut one.

  • Oh, and I'd also like to add:  When my DS #1 was born 4 years ago, his Pediatrition said to wait until he's 3 to give him peanut butter. I of course followed every single rule back then, so I waited until he was 3 (he hates PB .. maybe he was too old when he tried it for the first time)

When DS#2 was born, his pediatrition said "NOW "they" say that waiting until they're 3 might actually do more harm than good".  we gave him PB during his first year and he loves it.

Medical advice changes year to year.

  • I pretty much eat it every day for breakfast. A person can't avoid everything that hasn't been categorically proven safe during pg (or they'd be avoiding everything).

  • First trimester I felt like I couldn't get enough peanut butter (pb&j), but I haven't had that much of a craving lately. I am definitely interested in the whole allergy thing...we don't have food allergies that run in our families but I have lots of skin and environmental allergies and *some* studies say that that makes your child predisposed to other types of allergies but every study has one that rebutts it.

  • I eat it at least once/day, sometimes more.

I ate it just as much when I was pregnant w/ DS and he has no allergies (he eats PBJ often for lunch)

  • Every day without fail!
  • I eat it nearly every day... I get the sugar-free organic kind... for no other reason than it tastes saltier (but oddly has less sodium than the others) and salt is all I want.

DS eats it at least twice a week.  We introduced it to him in the pediatrician's office on his first birthday.  You always have this option with any food.

  • Every day. I love it and it's one of the few foods that still sounds good to me. I have my appetite back to the point where I can force myself to get enough calories, but my peanut butter on toast is one of the few foods that I look forward to eating.

  • PB makes me sick, still, but Peanut M&Ms? I cannot. get. enough of them.

    Nom nom nom...

  • I have it in some form almost every day.

  • I'm finishing off the Jif right now...I eat PB pretty much every day.
  • I read somewhere that eating nuts and local honey during pregnancy can help avoid allergies... I eat PB about twice a week.

  • PB has not been as appealing to me as it was before pregnancy, expect in Reese's form. I eat it once in a while with honey on toast.
