WDYT of the name Liam?

My dh and I have been tossing this name around for DS #2.

Re: WDYT of the name Liam?

  • I like it a lot, either on its own or as a nickname for William.

  • Absolutely love it.
  • This is the name I always post in those threads of names you just don't see the appeal of. I can't stand Liam. I have no idea how it has grown to be so popular. I don't like the way it sounds or looks, and I don't think of it as a strong, masculine name.

  • I like it a lot, but it is really growing in popularity. I think there will be several in each class when the kid hits school. Pretty trendy right now.

  • No It's become too trendy.
  • I actually really love the name Liam and have it on my boy's list. However, I have heard it a lot lately and am a little worried by how popular it is. But nonetheless, I love it!

  • I love it. We were going to name our little one Liam if it was a boy, but she is a girl. It is growing in popularity, but I have never met Liam, so personally I wasn't too worried about it.

  • I think it's a great name. It's getting a little popular, but it's so classic that that doesn't bother me at all.

  • I have a Liam in my 1st grade class this year, as a stand alone name, not a NN.

I was nto a fan of it before, and don't like it any better now.

  • I LOVE the name Liam. We were considering putting it on our list for boys, but it's a little too "Irish" for my husband (who's Turkish :) ).

  • Ugg I strongly dislike it.  Although I have a bad association with it.  The first time I heard it for a baby I thought it sounded like an old man name (probably because the only one I had heard of was Liam Neeson), but it does seem younger to me now because of the many Liams I've met since then.    Still, not my favorite.

This was us too. We had a girl, but it was our boy name. I've since fallen in love with a few other boys names, so if we have a boy in the future we probably won't use it-but still, I like it.

Ditto.  Plus, much as I like the name, I'd balk at giving two brothers the same name(Liam being a short form of William, which it looks like is the big-brother-to-be's MN).

but I think it is coming back on trend...

  • I love it! It's on our list for boy names. No matter how popular it's getting I still love it.

Yes, we are clearly in the minority. I despise it.

  • Love it, but it is getting pretty popular. Also, I see you have a William and the two are very similar--kind of like having a Beth and a Bethany.
  • My husband's name is William and I would probably use Liam if our middle name didn't start with an M.  Liam M. sounds too much like Leah M.
