co sleeper vs crib??

hey, i'm 22 weeks pregnant and wanting to start working on my nursery. What would be better a crib or a co sleeper??

Thanks you guys!

Re: co sleeper vs crib??

  • Well, the crib is for the nursery, a co-sleeper attaches to your own bed in your bedroom. We have both.

  • A crib usually goes in the nursery and are a lot nicer looking than a co-sleeper. A co-sleeper is smaller, made of plastic and fabric, and is primarily used for the first 1-3 months when the baby sleeps in the same room as mom & dad, if they choose to do so.

    We're getting both.

  • Preferences preferences. We cant tell you which would work best for you, but only what we plan to do or what has worked best for us. With that said I do not have a cosleeper but a bassinet and crib. He will be in the bassinet for as long as he is comfortable then move to the crib (if it all goes to plan). I have heard great things about co-sleepers though and think you should research that option further also.

EDIT:::: Crib is in his nursery and bassinet is in our bedroom directly next to my side of the bed.

  • I think you definitely need a crib even if you have a co sleeper unless you plan on transitioning LO from co sleeper to toddler bed (which is not really an option since the co sleeper is quite small). I never had a co sleeper but we bed shared until DS was around 8mo and now he is in his crib.

  • I was planning on gettting both (crib for nursery, cosleeper for master bedroom) but now instead of the cosleeper, I'm considering getting a mini crib and sidecarring it like this. Looks nicer and seems more sturdy than the cosleeper for about the same price.

  • I agree with PP's. You kind of need a crib for when the baby gets older - my daughter is almost 2 and still sleeps comfortably in her crib - probably will for another 6 months if I had to guess - maybe longer.

I would recommend getting a crib that converts into a toddler bed (you might take a look at pottery barn kids - they have some nice ones that are safe, fixed rail and are 3-in-1 - they turn into a toddler bed then make into a headboard too).

We co-slept with DD as long as it made sense (the only way we got any sleep AT ALL there at the beginning - she wanted to nurse CONSTANTLY). Then, we put her in either the crib or the play yard to sleep at other times. Finally transitioned to the crib completely at 6 months and she's been sleeping in there ever since.

    Just my 2 cents!!
