2nd Trimester

So we had to shave DS's head last night.

We found another louse ... so we washed his head again, and then found LOTS more eggs.  After 2 hours of literal nit-picking, we finally decided to just shave his head.  I ugly cried, I'm not going to lie.  He has such pretty hair, I hated shaving it off.  He kept saying, 'no cry mama, its ok'.  ::sniff::

I'm sure it'll grow back quickly though.

  • Oh my word! He's adorable :)

I uglycried when we cut my DS's curls off.  I had to remind myself it's just hair, but it's so tough.

  • Aw, he looks adorable!! When we first shaved ds's head (because of a botched home haircut) I felt bad too. My ds is skinny and pale too so I thought he looked sickly. It grows back fast and in our case the hair was a lot nicer when it came back in :). Hope the lice stays away!!
  • Well he looks super-happy!  That should count for something :)

He was actually really happy that his daddy let him hold his flashlight ... which we used last night to be able to see all the eggs in his hair.  lol.

He kinda looks like a cancer patient now, he's so skinny and pale anyways, lol, but it'll grow back quickly.

Your son is adorable.  But I think you should edit/delete the cancer patient part.

  • Wow.  I didn't know that cancer patients were so funny.  Tongue Tied

  • While I agree that your child still looks cute, I agree about deleting the cancer patient comment.  This is a sensitive topic for many - I have had many friends who have gone through this, and it is an awful experience that some have survived through.

I agree - deleted.  I have several family members who have gone through it as well, that's why I could relate to what he looked like last night.

yeah, pretty offensive.  ANY comparison to a cancer patient ESPECIALLY a pediatric cancer patient is uber offending.  i won't go off on what the children and families go through when they get a diagnosis!  my goal is for the person who posted that, will from now on think before she speaks/writes!!!

  • Totty - just a thought about the lice - have you treated your DS's stuffed animals?  I know when we were little, my mom had to throw a bunch of stuffed animals through the washing machine - some survived it, others got thrown out.  I'm just thinking that if they are in the stuffed animals, DS will keep getting re-infected...

  • Oh for Pete's sake.  Can the entire bump stop being so sensitive?  I'm so sick of the PC stuff.  She made a comment and it wasn't meant to be offensive.  People tell me I look like a cancer patient when I wear a headscarf.  They aren't making fun of cancer patients - it's just a comment people make.  Geesh.  I cannot imagine going through my life being that sensitive to what others say...

Totty - sorry you had to shave his head.  In a few days you'll look at him and forget what he looked like with his hair - the shock will wear off.  And little boy hair grows back so fast!  Right after I had David I went through an insane period where Gabe's rubbing food in his hair was driving me nuts, so I decided to shave his head one day.  I did some ugly-crying too.  Within a few weeks it had grown past the bald stage.

Sorry about the lice.  Did you have to wash everything in your house again? Ugh.  I remember when we got head lice as little girls - my mother packed everything cloth in the house into the car and went to the laundry mat and spent an entire day there.  Maybe that would be easier for you.

    Hang in there.  :(

In Totty's defense... she did delete any comment she made.  She realized that the way she meant it (something along the lines of "my son looks like one of those poor little cancer patients" which can be a pretty hard thing to see) was NOT the way it came across.  She deleted her comment which I give her credit for.  I also was caught off guard by her comment at first also and then she explained how it reminded her of family members she had seen go through that and it made her cry.

She can't be blamed for another poster's comment though.  She can only delete her own, which has been done.  I give credit where credit is due...

Yes, everything in the house that can be washes has now been washed in uber hot water at LEAST 3 times.  All the stuffed animals have been bagged up.  All the furniture has been sprayed.  I am super worried about my hair though ... I have dry scalp anyway, so I'm always itching.  Now everything I scratch I'm thinking about bugs.  I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

    No.  I'm not at all.

It's one thing to make a joke that intentionally is meant to hurt people.  That's wrong and insensitive.  It's another thing to say something that wasn't intended to hurt anyone and then have a bunch of people jump on you and tell you what a horrible person you are for saying it.  You can tell that she didn't intend to hurt anyone.

And there is a big difference between making a statement that is true - when you shave your head bald and are thin/pale you may look like a cancer patient - and making negative comments about the appearance of cancer patients.

Sorry if I'm a little touchy about this today.  I read a post yesterday on NB that literally made me go "Huh".  You can't say anything anymore without offending someone.

Ok, I think you're a little confused.  I'm pretty sure AW is talking about what I originally said my post ... which I don't think you read, because I edited it.  I think you were offended by what SarahTX said, which was based off of what I said, but I can't delete or apologize for.

Regardless, I don't believe ANYONE here was trying to make light of what cancer patients look like, or they go through.  At least, I wasn't.  As I mentioned before, the reason the original comparison was made was because I have family members that I have WITNESSED go through the process.

No, I don't know how it is to have a child with cancer... but I've had cancer myself and been through my own share of issues with it.  So I think I have a little room to talk here.

    Get off your horse.

Listen emjay, i wasn't blaming totty!!!!!!!  gosh, talking to some of you is worse than talking to my teenagers.  I WILL NOT GET OFF "MY HORSE".   i also refuse to let you bully me and let you make me believe that what your spewing is appropriate!  I will however, be the bigger person and get myself out of this post.  My husband is a bit concerned right now because you have pissed me off so bad that my face is beat read, and I can feel my blood pressure rising.

Go ahead, be immature and flame away.  You all have a WONDERFUL day...

  • Jess, I don't think they are talking to you.  I think they mean Pregaftertubal, who is now using this as her own personal crusade.

Thank you.  Now go take your meds and go to sleep.  You never even saw the original post.  And you're basically blaming a woman who isn't online right now (sarah).  Send her a PM.  I'm sure she'll respond.  She's not one to run from stating her opinion.
