What does your doc say about BH?

So after my shower yesterday I was having back to back BH. So I looked in What to Expect and it says if you have more than four in an hour you should call your doc. Well I was having WAY more than 4. It was at least 10. And my back was killing me. at my 28 week appt, my doc said not to worry about or keep track of BH. SO I just waited it out and I feel fine today. Has your doctor said anything about BH?

  • no, just that they are normal and to drink more water. I had them last night along with terrible back pain, got maybe 2 hrs sleep :-(

  • My cut off is five or more an hour.  When it happens, I lay down with my feet elevated and drink a ton of water.  If they do not go away, I have to call my doctor.  If they are accompanied by pain, I have to call the doctor no matter how many I have.
  • I was told if they are timeable and I have more the 4 an hour to call....I had a few one day and just relaxed and they eventually stopped but they did change my cervix b/c when I went for my follow up cervical scan the could see it.

If they go away after lots of water and relaxing your ok, but still bring it up to your Dr

  • My doctor said 10 in an hour BH or otherwise they want to know about.  I don't think most women can tell the difference between BH and early labor contractions so if you are having an increased amount and if they are timable, you should call.  Also, BH usually don't cause low back pain which my OB said is where labor contractions usually start.  I hope its nothing and you just need some water.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

I am fine now. This was all last night. Do I still need to call my doc or I am fine now because I feel totally normal again?

  • My OB said 6 or more an hour can cause you to dialate, so he said to come on in at that point to get checked.  But this is after discussing them with him- so maybe call first and double check.
  • My Dr. told me to contact them if I was having more than 4 per hour or if they seem to be lasting too long

  • Ok, so the whole BH stress me out. I have the same questions. I asked my doctor at my last appt and she said "I want you to come in to L&D if you have more than 5-7 an hour or if they cause any pain". Well, there seems to be such a fine line. I am with you b/c I had 10 last night in about an 1hour and 40 minutes and then went to sleep. I am feeling better today though. And oddly sometimes I still can't tell if she is just balled up on one side really tight or I am having a BH?

Yea, it can all be confusing. And the whole "i feel fine now: has me wondering if I should still call the doc this morning.

I was wondering the same thing about calling? I feel like they wouldn't really know either unless you went in to the hospital and were hooked up to the monitor. My doctor also mentioned that if at any time you feel like you have to breath through a braxton hicks you should come in.

I just called my doctor's office and I am waiting on the nurse to call me back. I guess it's always better to call just to be safe.

To answer your question for me, I think calling to be safe is always the best option when you don't know.  Since you are feeling normal today, everything is probably ok and you just over did it yesterday.  Let us know what your OB says.
