I've found that there are things that I'm a total snob about. For example:
I'm a water snob. There are some bottled water that I don't like the taste of. I mean, come on! Water's not supposed to taste like anything! I'm not going to pay big money for water that has a taste!
I'm a maple syrup snob. I want the real thing. No "Mrs. Butterworth" here.
What's your snobby item?
Re: Are you a snob?
Salmon
Rice
Berries
Apples
Our Thanksgiving Day baby 11/22/07
Pregnant with #2 with LPD, uterine polyp/hysteroscopy, DOR (AMH = 0.17), 2 c/ps
Our early Christmas present 12/9/10
Me too!!
And coffee, and schools.
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
Too many things to name...it is kinda sad.
Yup. I am a restaurant snob. I would rather pay $$$ for an awesome meal than eat run of the mill Applebee's food (unless my kids are with me, then I'll eat Applebee's. LOL)
I also won't drink tap water anymore. It has to be filtered.
Strollers (I have 4 strollers - all crazy expensive but I use them and they fit
my needs- but I couldn't do the cheap ones)
Cameras I'll spend the extra money for quality and I don't understand why others won't.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
Bagels - anything outside of the metro NY area are just bad (sorry, guys) and I can't tolerate chain bagel stores! I'm actually known by family and friends as a bagel snob, lol!
Pizza - the thought of domino's or papa johns just makes me ill
Toilet paper - Charmin!
Purses - I'm not a big brand name person when it comes to clothes or shoes, but, I am with purses
I'm sure there are others!
I'm definitely a water snob! I only like certain brands.
TTC#2=July 2011: Surprise BFP: Chemical Pregnancy
I like this post.
Makeup. Especially eye makeup.
Chicken and Turkey lunch meat
I will not eat any frozen meal with chicken (really any meat for that matter)
Will not have any other turkey lunch meat other than Boar's Head (or some similarly high quality meat)
For myself/DH... peanut butter (has to be all natural and name brand, although DH is happy with whatever is cheapest
), crackers (for some reason I can't stand the store brand crackers I've tried, other than TJs/Whole Foods), and electronics (computer, tv, camera, etc). Other than that I'm good with store brands/whatever is on sale.
For DD, pretty much any food... she eats mostly organic produce, meat and dairy products, nitrate free lunchmeat when she has it, and everything else is all natural. Not because I don't believe in cheaper brands, but for health reasons. I also don't typically buy her cheaper toys/baby gear.
And our dog eats $50/bag dogfood... yes, we are crazy (and broke after buying food for our household
)
Italian food - I grew up with a Nonna who could cook!!! Oh and forget about any Pizza outside of NY/NJ unless the place is owned by person from this area! Pizza hut and that crap is like eating cardboard if you ask me!!!!!!
Diapers - I have found all generic brands SUCK! I will only buy Pamper or Huggies!
Peanut Butter - I know odd but I only like two kinds!!! I find the generics are too watery
People
schools/colleges
houses/neighborhoods - this sounds awful but I am - I don't think you need a fully decorated mansion (I certainly don't have one, we have all hand me down or grad school furniture still) but there are some neighborhoods where i would not even consider raising children
peanut butter - choosy moms choose JIF
tp - charmin
gold jewelry - only 18 carat or higher (I only own three 18 carat pieces - my wedding band/engagement ring and grad school ring - the rest are 22 carat which is standard for indian jewelry)
milk - only rBST free
so far baby stuff - i have only bought new stuff - everytime i think about buying used toys I think to myself - do I want to deal with missing pieces/broken parts, having it not work, cleaning it or worrying about who/what has been drooling/chewing on it etc.....
fruit - i will pick through an entire bin to find fruit that is perfect/not bruised and crisp - and I go ballistic if i come home to find the bag boy has bruised my fruit
good asian and ethnic food - i really really miss boston in this realm
I can't believe I'm going to answer this, but for me, it's handbags and cars.
for DH and I, it's traveling/vacations.
For Ava, it's all about the clothes and shoes, her schooling, and organic food as much as possilbe.
i'm a doctor snob... being a drug rep i'm in doc offices all day long --- i will never go to one for myself or family that doesn't have a clean office, good staff, great doctor.... i'm amazed at how disgusting some of the offices are that i visit- and people still go there... ewe.
i'm a bit of a hotel snob- since i traveled a lot for my previous job and stayed at really nice places- now it's harder for me to stay at crappy places... I do it to save money sometimes- but I always try to find the nicest place in my budget.
a stroller snob... i love good strollers. I don't care what other people use- but I like to have a nice one for myself... love the way they feel/ride, etc. Doesn't mean they have to be really expensive all the time either (i loved my Kolcraft Contours double!)... though, most of them are.
Schools. I'd cut off my arm if it meant getting DD in the best schools.
Hospitals. I want to go to the pretty, nice, up to date ones.
Houses. I want a nice place to live in a nice neighborhood.
Everything else, give me used or generic or the cheaper the better.
Beer
Wine
Coffee
lots of other stuff.
LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).
Life is beautiful!
I am not a water snob but I do not like the way Evian tastes.
Geesh, I'm probably a snob about a lot of stuff.
sheets-- I like a high thread count
Hotels- will only stay at hotels with comforters (vs. bedspreads-- though I have certainly made exceptions in desperate situations-- but only rarely)
toilet paper-- seriously, how much are you saving by buying the flipping stuff that feels like sandpaper and you need three times as much of-- just buy some cottonelle or charmin for pete's sake.
wine glasses-- I do not like small wine glasses-- a la the kind you get for free at a wine tasting. Just bring me a beer if you are serving your wine in those.
Bar soap-- it just feels like I am putting someone else's bacteria back on my hands....blech.
I could go on but those are the first that come to mind.
Purses...I love Coach
Hotels...I'm willing to pay more for quality.
Kids toys...I have issues buying used toys so I end up buying new and then selling to make up the difference.
Cars...they don't have to be expensive, just only a couple years old and bought new.
I could careless about a lot of things, and will search for a good deal on most things.
I'm proud to be a snob!
Purses
Makeup
Danties
Sheets
