poop?
I just changed DD's diaper and I could see chunks of what looks like the dried fruit we feed her. Cranberries, prunes etc. I've seen this before with corn kernels (lol!) but uh, shouldn't her body be digesting most other foods? I don't think that's normal.
Re: Do you find chunks of food in LO's
Absolutely, completely normal.
We always see grapes, beans, etc. It's the stuff the tougher "shells".
We have been seeing this lately with DD. For the last 2 wks she's had really loose BMs and a lot more (4-5 a day). She has been teething so I don't know if that is what is causing it.
I have been researching it a little and the solutions I've found that are working for us was to greatly increase her fiber (fresh fruit, whole grains) and fat (butter, whole milk, and olive oil.) No fruit juice and no excess sugar. The articles I read said that the food bits are because their digestive system is moving everything through too quickly and not having a chance to digest. The fat and fiber help slow their system down.
She was eating plain bagels with her breakfast every morning so I switched to whole grain bagels and spread butter on it and she eats that along with some apple slices. For lunch we do a sandwich on double fiber bread with real cheese and lunchmeat. It is helping a good bit.
My SIL mentioned once that when you see whole pieces of food in their poop, it's really just the skin/shell filled with feces. Apparently, they can digest the soft stuff inside, but not the tough outer part. I guess this would apply to things like blueberries, corn, raisins, grapes, etc.
I've never gotten up the nerve (or stomach) to test this theory, but I'm sure it could be easily proved or disproved. Sorry in advance if it's just something she made up
