2nd Trimester

Mattress toppers

So I was doing good sleeping with a pillow between my knees for the past month, but that pillow just isn't cutting it anymore.  My hip joints are killing me now and I'm waking up in the middle of the night with more pain & rolling over to my other side.  The pain doesn't go away shortly after I get out of bed either, so I'm thinking I need to change up my sleep routine.  I'm contemplating getting a memory foam-ish mattress topper...anyone tried one and had success with it?  Other suggestions?  TIA!

Re: Mattress toppers

  • I've been contempleting the same. I can't say I've had success with it thus far in pregnancy, BUT, my parents have a beach house and the beds are craptastic. I wake up and my whole body is tingling and I can't feel by legs. My dad got these memory foam mattress toppers from BJ's. They're not cheap, but they're certainly cheaper than getting the whole tempurpedic bed. They are fabulous too, after one night of sleeping on it, I forgot all about the terrible mattress that was underneath.

Just make sure you get the thicker one if you do go for it - they sometimes come in different thicknesses.

  • With my first pregnancy I tried everything I could think of that would help me sleep better on our bed. Nothing seemed to work for me. I just ended up sleeping on the couch or in a recliner. :( Sorry. I'm 18 weeks along now with my second and my joints are in so much more pain than their were the first time around. I have already started sleeping in the recliner. It helps out so much more than anything I tried with the bed. Maybe this is something to look into and try? Good luck!
  • I was sleeping with a pillow between my legs too and ended up with sore hips.  I have ditched the pillow between the legs for a few days and have been doing much better.  I'm still undecided as to whether or not I'll replace it with anything else.  Good luck!
  • I had a 6 in mattress topper and got rid of it because I once I sunk in about 4 inches, it was very hard to change positions. Im down to a 2 inch and that helps. Also, I have made a routine of taking a lavender epsom salt soak bath every nite before bed.  It helps and maybe itll give you a little more relief. Good Luck!
