christmas gift/toy ideas for 9 month olds

For those of you who have babies over a year old, what toys do you recommend for 9-12 month olds?

(other than kleenex boxes, and everyday household items!)

TIA

Re: christmas gift/toy ideas for 9 month olds

  • I don't know, but I'm going to steal all the ideas that are posted since our boys will be about that age this Christmas and I'm short on ideas too...they love books so that's easy, but I don't know what to get other than that!

  • Funny you should ask that. I was just thinking yesterday of all the things they will "need" when they turn 1year old.  They have a December birthday.  And at this moment, I cannot remember a thing!  LOL.

But they do love to ... if you give them a rag, they will clean your floors.  If you give them a box, they will scoot that box all over the house.  I bought them a push cart.. still too early to use it at 10m's , but I think soon they will love to push it all over too.  I wish I had bought the one with the adjustable wheels that you can tighten up so the cart won't go flying ahead of them, causing them to fall.  I think at that age they just love pushing things with the new found freedom of walking.

I have mentioned it before, and if they don't have one yet... leapfrog has a pot.  My kids LOVE the pot. They like the sounds and putting the lid off/on their own heads and "eating" the corn and brocolli.  Their favorite food is green peas.. and of course, green peas are included with the pot.

Laugh N Learn by Fisher Price.. they love the farm house.. but if I had it to do over again, I would have spent 20bucks more for the playhouse.  With two, it is more sturdy.  Because you have two bodies pushing on it.. I fear that the farmhouse will tip over.

My babes are not over a year old.. but I have babysat for others who are older.. and they still love their playhouse and push toys. And I loved my pots when I was Five.  So I think these toys will last a long long time with lots of learning along the way.

  • My girls are 9 months now. They love anything that they can use to pull themselves up on. Their faves are the Laugh n Learn House, Leap Frog music activity table, and the FP Little Superstar Sing-a-Long Stage. we got all of ours for at least half the cost from CL...the stage we got at Goodwill for $4! They also love the Playskool Busy Ball Popper and can even turn it on themselves.

Smaller things they play with all the time are: board books, balls, shape sorter, toy links, a huge teddy bear and body pillow they like to climb on and wrestle with, and bath time books. Stocking stuffers could include teething biscuits, puffs, cheerios and mum-mums :)

  • thank you for the advice ladies!  I'm forever looking for different ways to entertain my LOs:)
