I work in a doctors' office (and it's not an obgyn or pediatric office). There was a woman who was bare breastfeeding in the main waiting area.
You could see the areola not to mention the whole breast. And what is she going to do if the baby suddenly pops off of the nipple?? I don't get it. I am all for breastfeeding but isn't that a little too much nudity in public? It didn't bother her though apparently. I would have asked for a room that wasn't being used. What do you gals think?
Re: bare breastfeeding in public????
good for her.
they are boobs. nothing scary. we all have em.
Honestly I think that showing that much in public is inappropriate. I prefer to use a different room (just a personal choice) or at least to have a cover on.
Siggy check.
May I invite you to look down your shirt?
Look familiar?
They are called breasts.
Your welcome.
This exactly. Good for her. no, I don't think it's "too much nudity" and she shouldn't feel compelled to hide herself while she feeds her newborn.

I think it's ridiculous to get riled up about the fact that a woman had her breast out feeding her baby.
I say more power to her.
Oh I bet this turns into a hot topic! I am against it myself. I don't really take offense to anyone that decides to bf in public, that's just NMS. On the other hand these women don't really know who it is offending, or what kind of sickos out there might be getting a kick out of looking at your naked boob. I understand that it's "natural" but so are a lot of things that you do in private. I personally shy away from it, but if a mother decides to whip it out in public it's their body and their baby, I can easily look the other way,
this being said...
i do have a hooter hider and plan to use it.
more for myself than anyone else tho.
I don't see why the only options are "she should stop" or "you will stare."
If you don't want to stare at someone's breasts, don't stare at them.

I wouldn't judge anyone for doing this. It's their body, their baby, their choice on how they want to feed their baby. Just because I'm modest about that stuff doesn't mean everyone else is...
However, my DH would probably explode in a puff of smoke if he saw something like that and I would be really uncomfortable seeing it if other men were around. No idea why, but if I saw that in the presence of all ladies, I would probably be fine, but if there were dudes in the room, I would probably squirm a bit.I think this is no big deal--she's feeding her baby, relax!
I don't like sexualized nudity on TV, etc, but this is totally different. I personally would cover myself up while breastfeeding in public, but that's because I don't want to get sneered at by rude people--not because there's anything shameful about feeding a baby.

Really? You have absolutely no neck control or eyelid power in the face of a breast? Are you a 12-year-old boy? lol.
Honestly, it is like a train wreck - I cannot help it.
i like you better everyday lol
That is weird never heard of anyone doing that before. But then again it is a little funny

Oh good point on the men thing, my dh would probably flip a biznatch if I whipped out my amazing porn stars titties for the world to see.(haha)
I think ok for her if she wants too. Just because its there doesn't mean you have to look. But for human curiosity, its hard not too. look.
If it were me, I would use a blanket. I was shy in the nicu with all female nurses!
I am not saying that is right or even mature. I am just being honest.
I have, my kid hated it, and would rip it off every time once he figured out how. So I would excuse myself to another room.
The way I look at it is if a woman was wearing a shirt so low that it showed most of her areola, most people would look at it as inappropriate, and would make them uncomfortable and I doubt anyone on here would disagree. Throw a baby into the mix and that's supposed to change the level of someone's discomfort? If we lived in a world with all women, then I'd be all for bare breast feeding in public, heck it's way more comfortable and convenient. But the "we all have boobs get over it" argument is flawed, half of the people out there are men, they don't have breasts, and I think it's totally normal for them to feel uncomfortable. We all have a$$ holes, but you don't see anyone trying to let theirs hang out in public.
All that being said, I would never sneer at or criticize anyone for bare breastfeeding in public, and it wouldn't really even make me uncomfortable to see it, I can just see how it would make someone else uncomfortable.
Siggy check.
Fair enough.

Not a good analogy. A slutty girl with her boob hanging out of her shirt for show is not the same as a woman feeding her child.... come on now. (And I'm not even going to bother bringing up your "a$$ holes" comment.... wtf?)

?? Your comparison implies that there is something vulgar or obscene about a woman feeding her child. How can you compare this with F-bombs?

Its HUMAN curiosity people! It doesn't need a :side eye:. It's just pretty common.
Who cares if little kids understand? They're only bothered by it if you teach them to be...and one hopes that by the time they DO have a boob to whip out themselves, they will have more "cognitive ability" to understand the difference. lol.
Actually, no it doesn't. Most states (including mine, thankfully. And yours too) specifically protect breastfeeding, even uncovered, and exempt it from obscenity laws.

You are right they are not the same, but the amount of skin showing would be, so how is that supposed to change someone's level of discomfort? I really don't have a problem with it personally, but I can see how it would make others uncomfortable. I am 100% for breast feeding in public, but prefer to keep mine covered.
Siggy check.
Sarah, Your effin? hilarious!!! I could care less if a women BF's her child for the entire world to see. Yep, I'm sure I would take a glance as it's just not something you see everyday but hey, ITS ONLY A BOOB! Saying that, I am not that comfortable showing my tata's in public. But, if the little guy refuses to feed while covered up than I guess everyone is going to get show!
Even as someone that Bf'ed, that bothers me. I think that is rude and inconsiderate. Women are more than free to breastfeed in public, but it does need to be covered.
I totally agree with this statement. I sort of feel like how is it any different than letting your hoots hang out when you're pregnant too. I mean they are gearing up to be feeding machines. Just makes me HIGHLY uncomfortable. Just as if I were in public and someone had their boob out any other time. It's uncomfortable.
If you choose to, sure. I would rather save my pumped milk for when my breast isn't right next to my kid. Pumped milk, especially very early on, is a rare commodity.
ETA for spelling.
