bare breastfeeding in public????

Even if you don't use a cover, I can't imagine why you would need to have your entire breast exposed. Sure, someone might see something when the baby pops on or off. But I've BF, and I have many friends who have BF... heck, I even attended a BF group for months after DD was born, and I've still never seen anyone have an entire breast hanging out. So, yes, if it was as the OP described, I find that to be a little weird and unnecessary.

I'm all for BF in public and have done it myself, but I would be caught off guard to see an entire breast hanging out.

If you choose to, sure.  I would rather save my pumped milk for when my breast isn't right next to my kid.  Pumped milk, especially very early on, is a rare commodity.

I NIP without a cover - unless you come stare, you won't see a think.  They are breasts and meant to feed babies.  Our culture has way over sexualized them and turned them into taboo things.

Actually, no it doesn't.  Most states (including mine, thankfully.  And yours too) specifically protect breastfeeding, even uncovered, and exempt it from obscenity laws.

I was not referring to each state's laws.  I simply meant, I am not oppossed to women breastfeeding in public, so long as their boob is covered.

honestly. i think its fine if a women breastfeeds bare in public. and i really dont care who is uncomfortable with it. thats what boobs are for. there is a reason there are laws to protect women's rights to breast feed. this isnt the 50s we all know that a lot of babies get thier nutrition from a boob, shock. and really all you need to say to a little kid is "thats how little babies eat"

I would use a cover. Yeah, it's a perfectly natural thing and society shouldn't be so uptight about it yadda yadda yadda...but it's easy to wear a loose cover or even use a light blanket.

My boobs have been for motorboating far longer than they've been a feeding tool so it's going to take a little while to change that mindset. Again I'm not saying I would ask or expect a nursing mother to sit on a toilet to make me more comfortable, but I can totally see how the OP was shocked to walk in and see a boob staring back at her.

I was too, until I realized that when I needed help they would just grab my boob and help me out! They didn't care so after a few days I stopped trying to be so modest about it.

I would prefer to cover (myself) but I have no problems with women who breastfeed or catching a glimpse of boob. It's not a big deal to me.

I'm more disturbed by women who bend over and their whale tale shows.  Thats more offensive to me than a woman feeding their baby!

Not everyone feels uncomfortable seeing women breastfeed without a cover in public, I, for one, am not at all upset by it.  For that matter, it doesn't make all men uncomfortable, either.  My DH has never been upset by seeing a woman breastfeed in public.

I say that a women should be able to breastfeed her child anywhere whether or not she has a cover.  If it makes you uncomfortable, that's your problem, not hers.  As others have said, you don't have to look.

Plus, I don't think that you can see all that much when a woman is breastfeeding, even without a cover.  Basically, the baby's head covers up almost everything.  I really don't see what everyone is so uncomfortable about...

I did and will be covering up.  If my LO doesn't like the blanket then I will be pumping before we leave the house.  I am not comfortable with pulling my boob out.  But to each their own.  But I think that if you are okay with pulling your boob out then you can't get mad at people for staring because more than likely they will.

Newborns supposedly cry softly, but he never did -- so I would have a room full of people staring at me as I tried to convince him to latch, which would then make me cry and turn red too. Eventually I would have to give up, rip off the cover, and let him nurse without it -- which was super when everybody was still staring at me. You would think eventually a baby would give in and learn to nurse under a cover, but nope.

So after I stopped trying the cover, if someone caught a tiny peek at my areola as I nursed my quiet baby in public, I could care less. To each her own. I know sometimes it's hard not to look, but if someone's nursing without a cover, she's going to expect that and likely won't be offended.

BTW, with pumping - it's not always easy to keep a bottle cold in public, then warm it up in public either. Not to mention that your breasts aren't just milk faucets that you can pump full bottles from anytime you want.

kids would understand if no one ever made a big deal out if (yes its sometimes awkward but we shouldn't let our kids know it is)

kids would also understand if they saw their own mother. aunts. etc doing it. 

kids can understand ANYTHING if we let them. the mind of a child is much more open than the mind of an adult.

I have absolutely no problem with this. If you don't want to see her tit, look up in her face. People stare and then are upset about what they see. I have had full conversations with my friends while they BF and haven't seen a thing.

IMO people dress more revealing then what you would see BF and you are feeding your child! If it is 110 degrees in CA and I am out and need to BF, I refuse to drape a huge blanket over me and my little girl.

its probably a lot easier to be comfortable bfing. covered or not. in public if your partner is supportive 100% no matter what.
