cleaning bottle nipples

we use vent aire bottles and after a month or so there is this film all over them that i can get off.  I clean bottles daily and sterilize them every other week so it's not that they aren't clean.  Its really bothering me to the point where I go buy new nipples.

any advice?

Re: cleaning bottle nipples

  • we just rinse our bottles and nipples after we use them and then when we go to wash them, we just fill the sink with super hot water and soap and let them soak for 15 minutes or longer before rinsing them & using the nipple/bottle brush.

I do that too. I let them soak in hot hot water with soap and i still get the film.  urgh.

  • Not really a solution, but I heard on NPR the other day that a lot of detergents (I thought they meant dishwasher but maybe regular dish detergent, too) have recently been adjusted to have lower phosphates in order to be more environmentally friendly.  The unfortunate result is filmy, but clean dishes.  I get the film too and I hate it.  I obsessively try to wash and re-wash the nipples.  Out, out damn spot!  :)
  • I use the same bottles and hand wash, use a nipple brush, and I don't have the film you're talking about. Maybe like pp said it's from the dishwasher?
