So I'm 20 weeks along with a very noticeable bump. Recently I went on a job interview and I got a call back for a second interview. While on the phone the guy basically said I had the job in the bag. My only concern is should I tell them I'm pregnant!??? What if they decide to take back the offer extended?? When I went on the interview I had on a blazer that covered me a little big not to mention I had a big purse in front of me lol. Opinions!???

  • 2 weeks along??
  • I corrected the typo. I'm 20weeks
  • Oh phew... I was just gonna ask if you left off a second digit there. Hahaha.

This is a tough one. I would have to go with being honest if I were in your shoes. Tell them you are pregnant. Not sure if your plan is to go back to work after baby is born but if it is, let them know. You were just hired and they don't know you so not sharing news like this could come off as sneaky and make you seem untrustworthy.
  • I wouldn't until after things are done, there is another thread that was about the similar situation. I don't remember the post name.
  • You are not required to tell them and since it shouldn't be playing a part in whether you are hired or not there really is no reason to tell them that.  It is not something they can ask you about.

  • You might want to check into FMLA though. I'm pretty sure you have to be there a full year to qualify for FMLA for when the baby comes. May be an issue when you want to take off for six weeks. A co-worker of mine went thru this. She was there 11 months when she had her baby and the company we worked for were not cooperative. She ended up Quiting since they were only going to allow two weeks off.

I would tell them once the job is officially offered to you. At that point they really can't take back the offer legally because you are pregnant. Technically your pregnancy cannot determine whether or not you get hired, but until you're offered the job there could be any number of reasons you weren't picked and you'll never know why they don't offer you the job if they chose not to. Once you are given an offer letter if they were to try and retract the offer because you disclose pregnancy it would be very clearly illegal.

It is illegal for them to discriminate against you on basis of pregnancy. You don't have to tell them anything until after you get the job if you don't want!

I agree with PP if you want to work after you have the baby I would tell them once you have an official offer. If it's a temporary (4-5) month job you want I think it's more fair to them to tell them it's temporary. If planning for this job after baby I would come at them with a plan when you let them know. Ex. I wanted to let you know I'm pregnant and also that I plan to take x weeks off making my return date x
