1st Trimester

Cramps

I am four weeks and two days pregnant. I keep having a horrible pain in my lower abdomen, it is like the pain i feel when I am about to start my period, but I have already missed my period. Should I be worried about the pain? Is t normal? Does everyone feel that the first month?

Re: Cramps

  • It's very normal to cramp, especially the type you get when you have your period.  However, if they're severe and/or you see blood, you should contact your OB just in case. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about though!! :)

  • Cramping is normal according to my nurse, my RE and fellow bumpies.  I've had it since before I got my BFP.

If the pain is intense or accompanied by blood, contact your dr.

  • It's totally normal to have cramps, but if you are doubling over in pain, I would call the doctor.

  • Totally normal.  Mine started at 7dpo and lasted up until I hit the 5 week mark. Now, the cramps are just occasional.

  • Can be very normal.  I have had cramping with previous pregnancies and all has been well.  It often feels like my period was coming any day now, but I didn't have any bleeding.  It lasted off and on through the 1st trimester for all three kids and I have had it this pregnancy as well.

  • Agree with everyone on here - Cramping is normal. I was getting them at about the same time (which is how I figured out that I was pregnant), and they lasted for about a week. However, if you are really concerned, call the doctor. I did, and even though I was nervous, it was nice to know that my blood work showed my HCG levels increasing the way they should be! Gave me piece of mind.

  • Could be gastrointestinal. Are you gassy/bloated? Early on in my pregnancy, I woke up in the middle of the night with severe menstrual-like cramping. It turned out to be stomach issues.

    I wouldn't worry unless you're spotting/bleeding.
