YUCK blood tests make me sick

Anyone else get nauseous/light headed they have blood drawn?? Had my 1st appt/blood work this morning and woah was I not feeling so hot after.  I always bring juice and a snack with me but it's getting annoying.  I have to lie down when they do it, then turn on my side afterwards.....ugh.

I mean, really a little blood loss causes this much havoc with my body and I expect to deliver a baby? Sigh.....

Re: YUCK blood tests make me sick

  • I commented on all the vials and the tech assured me it's only 2 tablespoons of blood altogether.

I have no problems having blood taken (I've been a donor for years). I hate the pee tests, though. I have far too much trouble peeing on command.

  • I'm the same way. In fact I have one on Friday and H is coming with me since I get supper woozy after, esp the amount they need for that day.
  • I'm ok as long as I don't look at what the nurse is doing.  It looks like so much more blood when it's all layed out in front of you!
  • I am not looking forward to my first sets of blood tests. As soon as I walk back in the labs I tell them "I pass out" and they bring me in a big, quiet, cold room! Haha! Then they let me lay down for a long time. You are definitley not alone!
  • I just hate the sucking feeling from my veins. If they have to take more than two vials it starts to make me grit my teeth and get a little irrationally angry. I always look at the wall so I don't have to see the stick.
  • i was so nervous about this at my first appointment today and she ended up giving me an option to do it at my 12 week appointment, so i gladly took her up on that offer!  i have never passed out or anything, but i figure since i'm feeling so queasy all the time now, who knows!!  i always make a point not to watch.

  • Sorry that happens for you! Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, I was constantly sick growing up with ear infections, strep throat, and other ailments and doctors were constantly taking my blood so it doesn't phase me anymore. I surprise most lab techs because I sit down and just put my arm out, I know that they can only get blood out of one my arms. I actually have a permanent scar/indentation on that arm from all the times I have been poked there. I am convinced one time my vein is just going to collapse or something :-

The only time I have ever had an issue with blood is when I was in the ER one time and they were taking blood out through my IV for tests using a syringe, Just as the nurse was getting it out he realized they had already taken the blood so he pushed it back in!! I was freaking out and it made me feel really woozy, blood is not meant to be pushed back in your veins lol.
