How long did it take you?

Lurking on The Nest's Getting PG board leaves me feeling like a large number of women have trouble getting pg, but I also realize that many just congregate there as they try and that many that speak up have been trying for a while.

With this being my first month off nuvaring, my question to you all...

How many cycles did it take for you?

FWIW, I have read TCOYF and have begun the charting process.

  • I concieved first cycle each time.

For all the good it did me.

  • Just one cycle.
On bed rest since Groundhog's Day and every day since has been exactly the same.

  • First time three; this time one. Good luck to you!
  • We weren't trying, but we don't believe in birth control and were using Natural Family Planning.

Just remember a lot of women on these boards have had a lot of issues trying to conceive and come here for support. I am here because I am a first time mommy and I need the support too because as incredible as it is, it is also pretty scary to have a baby!

Anyway the point is, just keep that in mind when you ask that question because you are going to get a wide range of answers.

  • I was off birth control for 3 years but it took me 7 months! The doctors always say average time is about a year...THINK POSITIVE AND STAY POSITIVE!
  • First try for all 3 pregnancies. This is the first one that's been successful, however.
    I married a ginger.

  • We didn't use BC the first time, but I didn't get pregnant for an entire year. I'm sure that was just because we somehow didn't do it while I ovulated?

This time, it took 3 months after DS was born. Yea, we're pretty stupid. So not ready for another one, but we'll love him/her just the same. I think my family is overly fertile.

  • I got KU on my 3rd cycle

  • It took us about 20 cycles to get pregnant the first time, which ended in m/c at 5 weeks.  Then another 8 cycles or so after that to get pregnant this time.

I'm glad you're charting and read TCOYF.  I can't even imagine going through all that time without at least knowing I was ovulating and that we were timing sex correctly.

  • I was on the nuvaring as well and it only took me one cycle. Good luck!

  • I took the pill for 4 years, went off that, we used condoms for 2 months (until I had two regular cycles off the pill), then started trying.  I had one cycle, then BFP!  So, one cycle of trying before it happened.  I didn't chart or anything, just kept track of AF.

  • Pg #1 - 4 cycles, ended in m/c.  I started charting on the 4th cycle and got pg that month.

Pg #2 - 1 cycle.  I charted and got pg that month.

  • 1 cycle, but I was charting for 2 cycles. I did a "trial" cycle in which we used protection to get the hang of charting and better figure out my cycle. I have never been on birth control.  I honestly did not think it would happen so quickly because I, too, spent a lot of time lurking on the boards.
  • With my son it took 3 cycles...I had to wait 15 months for AF to come back after I had him because I was breastfeeding, but once it did, we conceived first cycle.
  • i got pregnant a month short of a year after stopping the nuvaring.

  • 11 cycles for this healthy pregnancy. I had another pregnancy/loss in before this one and it took me 6 months to conceive that pregnancy.
  • DD#1 - 1st month

    DS - 2nd month

DD#2 - 2 1/2 yrs of trying with a m/c thrown in.  Ended up needing Clomid.

    Baby #4 - 2 months of trying after a m/c.

  • one year after taking out the nuvaring
  • My first pregnancy occurred while on BCP's (ended in a blighted ovum). After being on the patch for several yrs I wanted a non-hormonal birth control option and decided on an IUD. However, 9 months after discontinuing the patch, I still didn't get a cycle and was eventually dx with PCOS from 3 different RE's. With the help of acupuncture treatments I started getting regular cycles and spent the last 3 1/2 years charting (as a means of natural family planning). When we decided to start tying we were successful on the first cycle WITHOUT the use of any fertility drugs. It's such an unpredictable process. Don't worry if it doesn't happen in the 1st month or even the 1st year, as it sometimes takes healthy couples a year or more to conceive. Best of luck to you!

  • I got preg my 5th cycle off nuvaring.

Charting rocked my socks. I loved that. It really helped. Although I fail at CM. It still was great for me.

  • 6 months but maybe 4 cycles after getting off BCP, 2nd cycle of charting and 1st cycle of trying, but my BFP cycle would have been my first regular cycle since getting off of the BC, and we just got lucky w/ the timing.

  • with #1?  20 months, 1 surgery, 5 IUIs, lots and lots of self administered shots.

with #2 - 0 months.   We weren't trying... yet.   We were set to return to fertility treatments once CD1 arrived - it just never did.

  • Two cycles, Went off BCP, halfheartedly tried for cycle 1 (was just starting to read about timing/temping/etc.), then got pregnant cycle 2 with full on timing/temping.

Totally shocked...I thought I'd have issues as I was misdiagnosed with PCOS about 8 years ago and figured I still had hormone imbalances, etc.

  • First cycle with both pregancies: I'm 35 now, was 33 then.

I was charting: I highly recommend it. Very easy and very helpful.

  • The first time I got  pregnant I used an electronic ovulation predictor called Clear Blue Easy and it took 4 months.

This 2nd time around it took us one cycle and one attempt. I didn't use the Clear Blue Easy or chart but I watched for fertile CM. I noticed really late one night that it was super stretchy (TMI sorry lol) It actually wouldn't break, so I knew we had a good chance at TTC.

18 days later I got the BFP. Good luck to you!

  • I was under the same impression, but it took me 1 cycle.  (Off BCP for 2 cycles.)  I think I am still in shock.

  • 24 months... and then finally did IVF and it worked!

I was also on the Nuvaring. I thought getting preggo would be easy-peasy since my sister and my mother just THINK of getting pregnant and it works for them. Not the case with me! My sister can actually "pick" the months she wants to have the baby in. 4 kids later and every time was bang on!

  • I had the paraguard IUD for 6 years.  I took it out on April 19th of this year and got a BFP on August 24th of this year.  So 4 cycles for me.  I didn't chart at all, just tracked AF and guesstimated when I ovulated.  LOL!
